Softball 2014

Will we repeat 2013, taking the conference this year? Our bats say yes, our pitching says no. The coaches say fourth place, no doubt on concerns about our pitching. Sherwood, on the other hand, our new coach this year, is a specialist in coaching pitchers, so maybe that will make the difference.

We started pre-conference season this weekend at Arizona State and their Kajikawa Tournament. So far we've won two (Indiana and New Mexico) and lost two (Colorado State and Utah), top tier teams and facing top tier pitchers. Out of those games we've got four players averaging over .300 - hitting! The games we've lost were due to home runs - pitching! Precious few strike outs.

By the way - Shae Nelson, new sophomore transfer from OSU, is starting at second base and is hitting well.

A month down the road and we're playing as expected. Four batters over .300, but our young pitchers are getting shellacked by Division I teams. Nothing to expect but improvement from our sophomore and freshman pitchers. Will they or won't they, by the beginning of conference?
