South Dakota

No. 1 Eastern Washington Eagles (0-1) at South Dakota Coyotes (0-1), 5:05 p.m. (Midco Sports)

Series record: First meeting

Last meeting: None

What to know: Eastern Washington came within one play of stunning Washington and quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell picked off where he left off in the FCS Championship Game, throwing for 473 yards, the second-most in school history.

While Mitchell impressed in the season debut, the Eagles need to improve upon the turnover margin they had against Washington. Their 4-0 turnover differential negated a 504-250 Eastern Washington advantage in total offense.

South Dakota benefits from getting the defending national champs at home, as the Eagles have posted a perfect 8-0 record on their red turf, which has become affectionately known as the "Inferno."

Prediction: Eastern Washington 41, South Dakota 17

Eastern Washington (0-1) at South Dakota (0-1), 5 p.m.

This is a game I will attend this Saturday. On paper, the defending national champion Eagles should handle this game, but they are coming off a game that they statistically dominated over FBS Washington but lost due to turnovers, 30-27.

South Dakota is also coming off a tough FBS loss to Air Force 37-20.

The DakotaDome is not an easy place for road teams to come into and having to travel half way across the country is not an easy trip for the Eagles.

Because of that, I think this game will be closer than people think it might be.

It will be especially true if the Eagles continue to allow the turnover bug to bite them. Stopping dual threat quarterback Dante Warren from USD will also be difficult.

The Coyote defense will need to stop Eagle signal caller Bo Levi Mitchellís passing attack.

I think Eastern Washington will go home with the victory but the game will likely be just a touchdown difference. Eastern Washington 38, South Dakota 31.

I wish Ashton Miller a healthy and complete recovery, hopefully this year, he's earned it. If not, a medical redshirt year so he gets 6yrs, which he should, great athlete and O-Lineman. Eastern will be stronger in the future with Ashton on the O-Line.
As far as Butorac goes at Right Guard, no worries, I know he's young, 2nd yr. in the program, but he has a good track record from highschool days from Skyline. He's the real deal!! He still goes 6'3/290 and spent the summer in Cheney working for the #1 spot. He will only get better every game he plays's. Also, his teammate, Evan Day had a sack against UW and is also a redshirt freshman. Two great up and commers for EWU who still got MANY games ahead of the them.
Lastly, get well ASHTON!!!!!!!

Oops, forgot my prediction for EWU/SDAK;
An EASTERN Win, of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Score, hard to tell; I like us 28-21, just a tad nervous.
I talked with a buddy of mine today who was at the AF/SD game, and he said SDAK looked gased because of the altitude, and confused with the speed of the AF wishbone running game. tough to really gauge anything from that though. I expect a tough game from SDAK.

talon38,
Send me your email on PM, I have an article on Evan Day, about how UW overlook students coming out os Skyline HS. Very good article, make sure his parents get it. I don't have to tell you. Jase is working his butt off, I noticed how he was protecting Bo Levi. Caleb Worthington is filling in well for Will Post. I saw Will yesterday, he was walking ok, but I don't know when he will return to the line up.

Freshman Cody McCarthy really is coming along very well, he is walking a lot better, and could be back very soon as LB. This team is really going to be tough in the Big Sky, after that game agains UW, Pac 12 Team, we can compete with anyone. Take care. Go Eagles!!!!! Vic Wallace

I'm interested to see how we play in the first half against FCS teams. Last year we were a second half team, but we seemed to play very well in the first half against UW (although we still outscored the huskies in the second half.)If we can play as well as we did against UW in the first half, we will be a great team.
