This one is going to be huge.
We'd better get the secondary squared away this week.

This game and every other game is huge for the team. Getting a win here will be huge and will set the tone for the rest of the Big Sky play. We can't let Sorensen go Hendrickson on us. I think Southern Utah will be vulnerable to the run game. We have a pretty good attack of DJ, Shaq, and even Kieran. I think we can gash them on the ground to extend our time of possession and sustain drives. Chew up the clock so Sorensen can't get going.

Ugh, just what we didn't need. Now with Monahan and Kietrell out for a while, we'll have to see how Toureen does with Nevin Lewis, and Noa needs to step it up with Loftin in the middle. More pressure on McDonagh now to produce, and I'm afraid that might not be a good thing unless we start throwing more bubble screens to get Shaq (or maybe Denzel Davis?) out in space.

I'd like to see us deepen the field early with some long passes. These short passes and screens really shorten the field. The first two drives against UW were an example. Both the 3rd down and the 4th down plays were passes behind the line of scrimmage that UW ate for lunch.

Lewis and Noa need to step up in a big way, along with our O-line to get some push on run blocks. Honestly, without Monahan, the biggest threat we can have is getting the ball to Thomas Carter out in space. He has shown sure hands on intermediate routes and is crazy quick. He needs to work on finishing long routes out better, but as far getting someone out in space? I think TC is our guy. We have to get those short routes going along with the running game, to alleviate the pressure on McDonagh. We cannot force him into a barn burner throw for throw game a la North Dakota. Shorten the game by running the ball and get McDonagh going with the short game.

The offense started to look better when we had some intermediate passes completed in the third and fourth quarter. You have to keep the defense honest. We have to be more imaginative on 1st and 2nd. Even against Carroll we got into too many third and longs, which puts a lot of pressure on our freshman QB. As far as the screens go, it's hard to do that against an athletically superior team, such as UW.

I know that UW was better athletically, but perhaps when we get back to Big Sky play those screens will work? I just don't know until we play on Saturday and see how those plays do.
Yes, medium passes are a must. Get some crossing routes over the middle with the TEs, because we know Noa can catch those passes. He just needs some more opportunities to prove himself, and I think with our two main receivers out, he'll probably get more passes thrown his way.
If Carter is that fast, perhaps we could mess around with a Wildcat formation or run him at QB with McDonagh wide? I don't know, just experiment a little.

What's up SUU is in the house :clap: looking forward to the game this weekend . Our run defense is one of our strentgh so I am interested to see if you guys can run on us effectively, our secondary is suspect so if your best receivers our down I'm breathing a bit easier. The offense has been struggling but is starting to come together , we're I'm concerned is our size and whether or not we will wear down as the game goes.

But if Sorenson can be like Hendrickson against our secondary, and we don't have our top 2 receivers . . . Ouch.

Who are you trying to kid? You have big offensive and defensive lines and, according to your roster, defensive backs who are 6"2 and 6"3? Also, if I remember correctly, there's little size fall off in in the first two on the depth chart. Looks like a very strong team to me.

yes we have size but I was referring to skill level also, we drop off after that 1st level, our run defense is better than the stats reveal our defense was put into some tuff situations first few games and if anything our mental toughness was in question but after the Cal game and NMH game I think we are settled down :thumb: offense is starting to come together so I'm hoping you guys overlook us and we can sneak out of there with a Win :clap: :clap: our secondary is suspect against the deep ball and for some reasons bubble screens our corners don't get off blocks well at the moment , our corners are tall have good speed and if your wr's are hurt works well for us we can load the box and force you guys to beat us with the pass ! Fingers crossed because your run game is exceptional .

While there were many good things to watch yesterday (rushing, rush defense, McDonagh's leadership), that was at times a tough 3+ hours to watch our secondary get schooled, our special teams fumble the ball around, and our wide receivers drop passes.
Unfortunately, I see 1-4 in our not so distant future...
