Southern Utah looking forward to us, thinking they have a "score to settle".

We need this game if we want a chance for the playoffs. Losing puts us in dire shape early in the season.

My personal take is that we have three outcomes of this game.

- We win: Season reboot. 1-0 in conference.

- We lose (big): Train Wreck

- We lose (close): On to the next week

I hate to harp on the same thing every time I post.... but here I go again....

I understand that it hasn't been pretty, and the turnover margin is atrocious. But the schedule has set them up to be seen as failures in the public's eyes. The Central Washington game is never going to be a positive because it's a lower level team and it doesn't count for playoff births, so it was basically a practice game. When's the last time you can remember coming out of one of these games feeling great about the team? The next two games were against FBS teams, and until last year's wins set PSU's fans up to have unrealistic expectations, we all realized that you usually lose these games. Now today they play the team that won the conference last year, and we think it's a dumpster fire of a season if they lose.

I agree that it feels like a must win game. But losing to two FBS teams and on the road against the defending conference champions doesn't mean that they are going to have a horrible season. I agree with Marty's assessment. The schedule gets a lot more favorable after this week, but if they turn the ball over 31 times and get destroyed, now we can call it a dumpster fire.

We're playing with a very young defensive line, and Santiago's out. SUU will score. Will Keisur and Penn, two experienced players, get in the game? If not, it will be interesting to see how the replacements do.

Given the relative success of the conference against NDSU and the rest of the Mo Valley, that should bode well for the conference to get more teams in the playoffs (better for PSU and the rest of the conference). However, the schedule is tougher than we thought at the beginning of the year, with EWU beating Wazzu and taking NDSU to OT, and Cal Poly's strong showing so far (beating South Dakota State in Brookings is quite a feat). SUU is probably the fourth best team we will face in the conference this year. We need to win this game as I don't think we get in with five losses, even with the strength of the conference this year.

Both were listed as doubtful on Thursday.

Ouch. I think they did more harm than good trying to teach Kuresa to stay in he pocket. He's most effective when he uses zay making abilities. I didn't think we'd see SUU pass as much as they did when PSU was getting a hand in the ball in he first, but it looks like they can score at will.

I was at the game on Saturday. After watching the first half, I thought we were in big trouble. The coaches made incredible adjustments at halftime and the defense held SUU to 7 points in the second half.

I stood there proud as our Vikings played their way back into the game. To think we were even still in the game after 7 turnovers is mind boggling. We have to protect the football, without that basic football principle being followed it will be a long season.

**Side note. Southern Utah had the biggest crowd in the history of their football program at this game. The crowd was announced at 10,500. Numerous SUU Fans stopped to thank us for making the trip down to Cedar City. Class act fans at SUU.

@psufootball agree. They were a class act as I got stopped 3 times and thanked. It was great to see the changes our coaches made at half. If we can follow that game plan going forward we have some hope.

Oline looked the best yet especially on the left side. I thought their #51 would kill us but our #61 held him all day. We need to run the ball more to that side. Kuresa had time. He just is still a bit off this year on passes. Stay with short routes and run more slants. Get our TE's more involved.

Defense though is going to be tough. We didn't pressure them much at all up front. Our secondary is the weak link. I don't see how we can approach another game without a cover three. We MUST have a safety over the top. We continue to let the other teams receivers get behind us. And while were at it, can we please teach our boys the correct angle to take on tackles?

I believe at this point we are out of cushion. If we have any hope of salvaging this season and having a shot at playoffs we better see two things happen; SUU wins out showing our defeat was not a fluke, and we have to win out. I don't ever want to sit in the stands again like we did at halftime quiet and depressed.

Most glaring stat---Chris Seisay led the Vikings with 9 tackles. Guess it is good we switched him to defense, obviously he's the only one who can tackle.

We don't need to know how to tackle. If our opponents would just play fair and fall down when we bump into them, every thing would be just fine.

Alan, I'm surprised to see you take a negative attitude here, you're generally all sunshine and lollipops.
