Spring Ball 2017

Are the practices this week open to the public and is anyone in the area going to attend? If so can you keep us updated on what you see here? I myself won't be up until the final spring scrimmage.

So I email the Hornet football support staff asking for any information or news on spring ball, things such as new coaches, any players making an impression, any surprises, etc. Got a nice email back that there are two new coaches, and that I can find all the information I need on the Hornet website or coach Sears twitter. There isn't crap on either one, except that spring ball is starting, we'll be in pads, and spring ball will be on spring break. How the hell are we supposed to get excited about football when nobody gets any information out? Roster isn't updated, either. At least last year they had Facebook videos....

Don't get excited about football, get excited about getting a new football coaching staff when the AD is hired!

It is sad that we're talking more about changing coaches than about the upcoming season. There is some fine young talent on this team, but I'm not sure there is anyone to coach and lead them properly. Haven't seen anything in the past two years that would indicate that there is...

It is sad, we have talent, I don't blame the players or even the current coaches for getting us into this mess. I blame those in the athletic administration for not properly evaluating the situation long before now and for failing to make the moves to right the situation. Hopefully the new athletic director has an ambitious vision for the program and expects success not excuses. At least the recognition that we need a competent, proven professional Athletic Director gives us some hope.

What will everyone say if the team does well next season? What if Hornets go 7-4 and make playoffs

Advertisement of the football program is not the coaches jobs, that is the SID's job. This just proves that the problem is not just with coaching but the whole athletic department.

Dont tell that to Volek. When he was HC he was hand slapping everyone and averaged over 11,000/game.
I think the HC is a big visible piece to the puzzle if the community supports the team or not.

There is not a dedicated SID to football, they seem to promote whatever sport is in season at the time. Which is a crime for the most revenue generating sport. Do we really need to read a PR about every match the tennis or golf team is doing? I'd rather read about Spring practice for the day.

I think we are just now seeing how terrible a job Macriss did as AD.

I am sure during those 1-10 seasons he was avg 11,000. In 2015 the Hornets were 4th in the Big Sky in attendance. 8,000 according to Big Sky records with Montana, Montana State and Eastern Washington leading the way. I do not expect the head coach to be out at practice filming hi lites or posting info on Facebook. I expect him to coach the team. The way I see it Volek is currently the AD who is suppose to be making AD decisions, get someone's ass out at practice. Let's go Volek.

Hornetsports.com has its domain expired. Website is down and the name is available for purchase.

This shows how low the department has become. Is anybody at the helm over there?

I just checked. The site is up. On the front is softball splitting two at the LMU Tournament and finishing there 4-1.

Chi,

Email Lisa Cardoza (Nelsen's Chief of Staff) about your unacceptable response and alleged resolution to your issue: [email protected]. It'll get to Nelsen's desk and I'd be surprised if you didn't receive a response by the end of the week.

I agree with GL, however there is plenty to be excited about. We have a President who actually give a damn about athletics and we get to see who he taps to take over this inept athletic department. Also there is excitement in knowing that this is Sears' last season so we get to see who the new AD will tap for HC in about 9 months. Plenty to look forward to in the future if the right people are brought in.

SD have you been out to practice yet? I suggest you do. They are going to be better then you think the Kevin Thomson kid is pretty good and all 3 RB are looking good

I do not like how they break up their spring ball with spring break. I think the athletes lose focus over spring break.

Oh you do, what else do you know about the program? How things are going? That is some inside info

No not really, just an opinion.

FYI OldHornet23, BCap offered an opinion and is pretty close to the inside...not sure why you took issue with his comment... I did hear Thomson hurt his arm last week throwing ...

Thomson is fine, has been throwing all week. Thought team didn't look rusty at all

For those of you thinking of going to the spring game tonight, I asked about parking and got the following reply:
"You would have to park somewhere off campus. 6:30pm they may not ticket but no guarantees".

To me, that's kind of a buzz kill.....

QB is gonna be an issue again this year. Watched a bit tonight and saw two picks in the span of 5 mins. Heard rumblings from some fans by us that Ketteringham might be moved to defensive secondary.
