Spring Ball?

The Weber State football team will open spring practice this week with the first practice set for Wednesday, March 7. The Wildcats under new head coach John L. Smith will have 15 practice sessions during the spring and will conclude with the annual spring game on April 14.

The Wildcats will begin Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and will also practice Friday this week. They will then take the following week off for Spring Break and resume practice on March 20. Scrimmages are planned for March 31, April 7 and April 14.

“We are excited to get going and start practicing,” Smith said. “We are looking forward to getting acquainted with the players on the field and see what they can do. With a new coaching staff we want to get to know the players and give them an understanding of what we want to do.”

The Wildcats are coming off a 6-5 season in 2011, including a 5-3 finish in Big Sky play, tied for third in the league standings. A total of 19 players earned All-Conference honors.

Weber State losses 13 seniors off last year’s squad and eight All-Conference performers return for the Wildcats. On the offensive side senior quarterback Mike Hoke returns after earning Honorable Mention honors last season. However Hoke had surgery on his shoulder earlier this year and will not compete in spring practice. He is expected to make a full recovery for this fall. Running back Josh Booker and guard Tytan Timoteo both return after earning All-Conference Second Team honors. Wide Receiver Shaydon Kehano and tight end Brian Jankowski will also be back after earning Honorable Mention honors.

On the defensive side the ‘Cats return three All-Conference performers including Trevor Pletcher who earned Second Team honors as a defensive end. Linebacker Anthony Morales and safety Tony Epperson both earned Honorable Mention honors last season.

Fullback Tevia Tolutau, punter Josh Kealamakia, and center Tyson Tiatia, who all earned All-Conference honors, will leave school to serve missions for the LDS Church.

Practices will be held at Stewart Stadium and at the lower practice field on the WSU campus. The spring game will be held at Stewart Stadium.

And last but not least, 'The Beast' shall also be at Spring Ball for his final season, making All Conference every season as Honorable Mention and fighting off injuries. He is healthy, 100% ready to go, and just wants an injury free season. Despite playing only 6.5 games last season, still ended up #2 in sacks.
Good luck to all the players, let's go get that Big Sky Championship.......

CJ Tuckett IS NOT transferring. He is dating a girl that is from the Ogden area, and from what I have been told CJ is actually excited about the new discipline around the program.

What I posted is straight from the athletic department, they're not my words. If they were my words I wouldn't have screwed up and said Weber went 6-5 last season (they went 5-6).

Tuckett?? Transferring? Hahahaha...he can't. He is a SR who has already used his RS year. Also, he is, contrary to popular belief, of course in my opinion, should be the go to guy this year at the RB position. Booker will get his, but it'll mostly be Tucketts.

From what I understand he never did red-shirt and played all years and with a new coach a player has the option to transfer. I have also heard that he is excited to play and is a great leader and is staying at Weber.

Yeah...his red-shirt is kinda funky. Orignially, as a walkon, I thought he did redshirt before earning a scholie. I could be wrong though. I'm just glad that Weber has him and that he is going to be around for his senior season. He ended last year on a definite high note.

CJ is in school and will participate in spring practice. Also, there are inter-conference transfer rules that would have prevented him from playing at another Big Sky school.

Hahahaha!! Thats hilarious!! Gotta love Weber State. You really have to wonder sometimes.

On another note. I, for one, am pretty excited to see what Coach Smith is going to be brining to the team. I love what Mac did for the program and I'm pretty sure that John L. is going to keep the momentum going and that Weber will only get better. I wish we knew which players were on missions. They did, most of them, originally sign a letter of intent that would make it possible for the department to report on them (I think...compliance help??). I know of three right now: Bo Bolen, Christopher Thee, and the WR from Ontario I believe (Bouhka??). I'm sure there are others that I'm missing.

Anyway, the workouts/conditioning went really well, and I believe that they were harder this year than what they will ever be, because there were some serious discipline issues that needed to be ironed out.
