Spring Ball?

Was anyone able to attend the first practice, or are they closed to the public? What about any rumblings, or is too soon to see anything, or anyone who shows promise? What about the offense? Do we have a new playbook?
I know, I know, a lot of questions, :blah: but one more-I heard another QB is out for Spring Ball (the one from AZ). Is that true, and if so, has anyone heard who is taking the snaps, and what they look like. Thanks! :-D

I do know that the QB from Arizona blew up his knee near the end of the season last year, but I dont know if he is playing right now or not. Adamzek or however you spell it is taking the snaps.

Senior starting quarterback Mike Hoke will not participate in spring practices after having shoulder surgery but is expected back for the fall.

Weber State starts spring practice without a returning signal caller as Hoke's primary backup, junior Jordan Adamczyk and third-stringer Ben Maraz, have also had surgeries.

Adamczyk will return after spring break, Smith said, but Maraz will not be back until the fall.

That leaves Breck Lewis and Woods Cross product Tyler Parson under center for now. Lewis, a 6-foot-1 QB from Spanish Fork committed to WSU in 2009 and returned from an LDS mission to enroll this semester.

"Breck Lewis gets a lot of snaps, so does Parson and Adamczyk will take a ton once he gets back from Spring Break," Smith said.

Braden Corpus, a quarterback from Boise's Borah High, will join the 'Cats in the summer.

I know, I know, it's only been a week of practice, but has anyone been able to witness some of the goings on? Is Adamachyk (sp) back yet? Who is looking good in the practices so far? Will it be a balanced attack, or can we tell without our starting QB? By the way, can any of our other QB's throw the ball? What do they look like? Is Hoke recovering alright from his surgery? Will he be back at full strength in the fall? , or does it look like he might be challenged in any way? And one more question, what does the running game look like? With Hinds out, is our depth going to be alright? :stir: :coffee:

Hoke's shoulder surgery was successful and it feels better than it has in a long time. He'll be at full strength this fall. And as good as he was last year, with his shoulder healthy he could be scary good this season.

Heard they had a scrimmage yesterday, anyone know how it went? Also heard Willie Harris is out for spring ball with broken leg, is that true?

Well, just like you Waterboy - I would like to hear a little of what is going on, but it appears to be pretty stagnant. Does the team have a new offense, or is it (the offense) pretty much the same with a few adaptions? Is anything having to do with this year's football team becoming maybe not solidified, but at least interesting? I don't live in the Ogden area, so I can't see the goings on, but my ears are open, I just haven't heard anything. Spring Ball - speak to me!

Frustrating to say the least. I live locally but am not available to watch practices and am not close enough to the program to get details from coaches, players, etc. I, like most people, rely on the athletic department and the media for information. You would think that with a new coach and all, the AD and local media would be all over things and would be reporting on it. But I guess it shouldn't surprise us that the AD is doing nothing to engage and inform fans. Just business as usual. :wall:

Probably not a whole bunch to report, yet. I'm sure new coaches are still evaluating for themselves who/what they have. They've only had three 'real' spring practices, not counting the 2 b/f spring break, and one quasi scrimmage last Saturday. Final scrimmage and spring game should give a feel for how things are going - altho probably still won't give a complete pic because Hoke and Maraz won't be in those scrimmages b/c they're out all spring.

Heard that Eastman was back on the field for the first time this Spring. Antwain Stutson and Eastman are the only 5th year seniors, so that means they're the only players with Big Sky Championship Rings from that wonderful 2008 season......time for another run maybe? :twocents: :twocents:

How's Eastman moving out there?

Ok, his elbow is good, knees are good. Was able to create a little chaos in the backfield with a few sacks. Some O linemen not too happy he's back, but iron sharpens iron.....should be a good spring practice for everyone.

GO CATS

Unfortunately, Willie did break his leg and had to have surgery to put plates/screws in. However, he is expected to make a full recovery by double days.

I enjoyed today's scrimmage. The running backs and recievers looked good. The O line is going to need to work a little harder or get some more depth. O line is not a strength right now. Just my opinion, of course. Tuckett is a stud nad the rest of the RBs had their moments as well. Taggert was particularly impresive until he tweaked his left arm a little and got slowed a bit. Adamczyk was head and shoulders above the other QBs in that scrimmage.

Defensively, we are going to be very good. They are flying around and hitting with authority. However, they did give up some big plays, both passing and running. There was little depth, in general, on the D side of the house.

The enthusiasm, on both sides of the ball, was outstanding. That may help us to become a better team.

Over all, I am really pleased with what I am seeing. Not that they need my approval. :coffee:
