Spring Ball

I will take anything and everything that you guys can find out, find out new players and who looks like those special players who will be the leaders on both sides of the ball, names i want to remember and watch this season, ,,,gettin down and getting dirty...lets gooooooo!!!

Sad to say but I think the only entertainment I'm going to derive from watching Eastern football is watching the wheels come off the wagon.

The defense has sucked bad the last several seasons if the offense isn't absolutely dunking on the defense EWU is screwed because it means the offense sucks too. That's been the problem with the last several spring balls, the defense either won or did well.

I think if Eastern is going to do well we need the linebackers to step up. Sanders is going to probably run a 3-4 defense so its mostly going to be on the linebackers to plug gaps and read the offense well and anticipate any misdirections run offenses love to do in the FCS now a days.. It's probably good they hired a full time LB coach. I don't really like most of Best's decisions but credit where its due, lets hope it was a good hire and works out.

I do admit it is interesting to see who gets the QB job although knowing Best I'll be disappointed and it will end up being Jared Taylor running some run heavy, play action pass shit.

E-Wu Tang Clan I totally agree with you. I wish it was otherwise but like you I don't like to pretend that EWU football is not in shambles because it is. As a matter of fact the whole EWU sports programs ake kind of downtrodden.

Ya I get these things are cyclical and you can't stay on top forever. Eastern does will despite having to compete with flagship schools like Montana schools. I would like to see more effort not secret extension's for ineffective football coaches. I don't follow basketball as much but it seemed since Hayford there had always been an heir apparent for basketball head coach. Odd that want the case this last time.

Went to yesterday's scrimmage. There were a number of key contributors missing especially from the offensive side of the ball. On offense, I was impressed with Jared Taylor. He can throw the ball. I say that because of the couple balls he did throw last year were terrible. He actually had some solid deep balls. Bell was best when he was either rolling out or scramble. Too short to be a pocket passer and didn't seem like he has a strong arm. I actually liked Shackel. Redshirt freshman. He has glimpses of success by looking off defenders, going through his progressions and has a strong arm. Needs seasoning. On the RBs, There weren't a lot available. The transfer from ETSU didn't impress me but it was a small sample size. The couple times I did notice him were bad. Didn't hit the hole hard and ran to high up. The worst was when he completely whiffed on a block resulting in QB sack. Terrible. On WR front, I liked Branch and the Gardner kid from Spokane. He caught some long balls. He impressed. Branch caught a skinny post for a TD and just looks the type. Finally, the OL. Definitely a work in progress. Only had 7 available. Tackles, The kid from Michigan is gone. The guards and center are undersized and young. Conner and Corning played well. So did the Jenkins the center also played well But this group will determine how the season goes. Disappointed we got to this position with the OL. Where is our depth. With our HC an old OL I am not impressed with the position so bare. Defensive breakdown coming later
