Any word on when the spring camp starts and what date they will have their scrimmage, golf tournament, etc?

Everything is the weekend of April 15th.
Bob Mattos Golf Classic and Football Reunion is Friday April 15th.
Spring Game and Football Awards Banquet is April 16th.
You can contact Ryan Smaha or Kercia Brakel for details/registration.

Watched the Hornets practice today. First day of pads. Defense looked very energetic. Offense struggled with little mistakes, especially bad snaps. Did show a little life in 2min drill. Scored both times on the legs of Ketteringham. I will give it another week before I give my full evaluation.

Not much talk on Spring ball but saw the team at Iderkum HS. Offense has looked much improved in just a week. Ketteringham made some plays. RB Hakeem Mays looks really good along with the big RB addition of Timoteo. A little bit of thunder and lightning. To me the addition of Paul Wulff on staff has helped the O Line. Big plays were happening for the Hornets. Still young mistakes of false starts but it is the first scrimmage with officials. I am excited to see the team during the spring game. Defensively the additions of Barnes at DB and Sorenson holding down the D Line looks good. Thompson and Pearson look like the best LB's. Mederious was kicking the ball well. Punting will be a concern. The kid they signed this year may end up being the guy.

See on the Sac State facebook football page that it is spring break and a new scoreboard and new video board is being installed in Hornet Stadium. Great to see upgrades , any upgrades to Hornet athletic facilities. Bigger is truly better when it comes to athletic facilities at Sac State And hope the video board is huge with the view of football games so far away with the track. Will be great to be at the game and be able to truly see all the action and enjoy the live space that being at the game offers.

I made it out to the spring game yesterday. It was well organized and had a good vibe to it and there was a decent turnout (more than 1k is my guess). Promotional, merchandise, and ticket sales booths were up. Only blunder was having concessions on the opposite side of the field but I brought my own beverages so it didn’t really matter to me. The new video board isn’t complete yet either.

Here is the Hornetsports recap, mine is below…

Offense
Play calling was the same as what we have seen over the last few years, nothing new there. There were some decent drives on the day, a few big plays by some noobs but otherwise it’s safe to say there is a ton of room for improvement.
Quarterbacks: K-Ham and Merker were the only QBs to suit. Both made plenty of poor decisions that led to easy INTs (4 total on the day). There were a couple of decent drives on the day but throwing the ball in the red zone looks to be a major issue.
Receivers: There is just a dearth of talent here. Nobody creates separation, and there isn’t any size to make a jump ball viable. Their performance was summed up when Ratliff made a great double move to get wide open for a sure TD pass and drops the ball. They also let the DBs rip some simultaneous possession catches away for INTs.
Tight ends: Nothing really stood out, however they seemed to always be open on the underneath routes.
Running backs: Mays looks to have playmaking potential. He broke 2 long TD runs. Robinson broke a big TD run too, but we already know he is a stud. Timoteo looks to be the short yardage guy.
Offensive line: Had some ups and downs. They were able to create some running lanes that resulted in big runs. They also let a lot of pressure get into the face of the QBs. Lots of improvement needed here.

Defense
Defense operated out of the 3-4. While the secondary had a great day in forcing turnovers, the front 7 had a terrible day stopping the run. Lots of running lanes went unchecked, but they did get pressure on the QB often.

Special Teams
Punting was atrocious. Medieros had a good day. Kickoffs were either in or through the endzone and his lone missed FG was on a poor snap/hold. Ratliff had a nice kick return for big yards.

Injuries
DE PJ Johnson went down with a knee injury. He was able to walk off the field unassisted but didn't return.

I drove up this weekend for the spring game, and it was organized very well. It does seem like the offense is starting to come around. To me, as of right now it looks like they will be dependent on their running game and defense. There was on play in particular where if the defense would have been able to unload on the QB he would have been flatten. O line cant miss blocks like that or the QB has to see they are out manned on that play. It will also be interesting to see what K-ham can do with his legs.

I got a chance to see the scrimmages through the last few weeks. I thought they definitely improved. Some players were held out of the scrimmage. The run game looked really good. I thought some of the bad sacks were mid communications which can be expected in Spring Ball with so many guys playing. The Defense is still a 4 Down base. The 3 Down was from lack of numbers. Some of the comments above did not make any sense. Play Calling? It's a scrimmage, they call plays to get them practiced not necessarily to win! Comment on KO's. You do realize they are working on KO team for one rep and KOR for the other right? One is a Scout Team! That is why they show one group a card. Always hard to judge team, if defense does well everyone thinks offense sucks and vice versa. This team is better. RB's Hakeem Mays and Ernie Timoteo is a load. Finally have a big RB. Sorenson is a baller on the DL. TE's had some good catches, Sander and McGill were not suited up. Cortez had 3 nice catches across the field for 1st Downs. Merker was good with his feet. Ketteringham does well then makes some very young mistakes hope he fixes those.

I see where the updated roster shows Robinson moved from QB to WR. Good move there. Also, the big RB, Timiteo, is no longer on the roster. He looked good in spring ball. Added another big JC receiver and two more kicker/punters.

He is further down the roster, listed as dual role LB/RB, changed his number to 42. I think this was done becuase our depth at this position is light.
