I think 2 key positions to watch this spring are the offensive line and linebacker positions. We graduated all 3 starting linebackers last year. Those 3 guys (J.D. Folsom, Ryan Galovic, and Biff Swan) played almost every down. There wasn't really a rotation as those 3 took almost all the snaps on the defensive side. There are some young linebackers that got some experience on special teams but a few special teams plays is not even comparable to playing a whole game in the box. Hopefully the young guys can step up and do their part. Every other position on the defense is solid barring any injuries so it should help the young backers in their maturing process.
The offensive line lost 3 starters (Paul Carpenter, Lawaia Naihe, and Zac Carlson). They do however bring back 2 all big sky performers in Mutcher and Oram. There are some young guys in the mix and some upper classmen who will finally get their chance to prove themselves. It is also a possibility that Travis Harris, a starter his Sophomore season, will return from 3 back surgeries and play this year. Hopefully he stays healthy and is able to perform at the level he did when he first got here. We all know that all the other offensive positions are stacked and that will definitely help out the o-line. It might take a bit to get that cohesiveness that is so important on the o-line but if they're able to get that and at least compete our other offensive stars will be able to take over.
Overall I think we have a great chance to improve on what was accomplished last season. Let's hope the team can continue to improve and get better with each practice this spring.
