Spring game 2013

Do we Bears really have zero spring game interest on this discussion board? My word! how discouraging! Did ANYBODY see how the 2013 bears looked today for the spring game? Is the defense looking any stiffer against Coach Dalton's 6'2 215 pound TE orientated offense? What about "TD", How does "TD" look these days as well as those special teams? Do 7 home games place the Bears in playoff contension?. Speak up bears! Be heard! How are we looking for the upcoming season?

It's hard to say much, mainly because half of our starters where out on defense (Leilon, Bump, Sierra, Chappel), and several out on offense. I only stayed for the first half and a little bit of the second half. But, from what I saw...

The Good

The freshman QB from Louisiana looks really good. I hope they red shirt him, but it's going to be difficult to keep him off the field as a 2nd stringer. Also, DB's look very good. They're young, but a great improvement and I think we should credit coach Gordan for helping out. Lobato looked good too.

Needs improvement

The offensive line. They're really, really young. Give them some time and good coaching and we've got something. We've got some size there, but they're very young and it's evident they need to hit the weight room.

Yea, this board has been pretty quiet. I was not able to go to the Spring Game but have a keen inerest on the front line as I think the O-Line is going to be very important to the success of this offense! If they come together this fall, Lobato will tear up oponents defenses if not I see us struggling for wins even with a great defense! What does everbody think?

I went to the spring game and thought that the team looked pretty good, considering it is spring ball. Lobato and the offense were solid on the opening drive. As Beardown noted, many players were sidelined due to injury so it is hard to say much about the defense. The offensive line is young, but the future success of the program starts with their development. I was really impressed with the freshman QB. He is a play-maker. When you consider he has only been with the program since January, the plays he made, both in the air and on the ground, were very impressive. I really like where this team is heading.

I think coach Dink and Smith have their work cut out for them in regards to the offensive line. However, just because your young, doesn't mean you automatically suck. You have to work on foot work and technique and get bigger and stronger at the same time.

The starting OL will include 3 seniors. I hardly call that young. They have a smart experienced coach in Coach Smith and they will get the job done this fall as they demonstrated on opening drive of spring game. And they have two years of solid OL recruits pushing the upperclassmen. Coach Dink is a huge reason this OL and entire team has and will continue to progress in their strength and conditioning. The pieces are gradually coming together for the Bears to be successful in the Big Sky. Going to be fun to watch!!

Welcome to the board coach Smith. Are you saying Collins is full of shit? He has said the same thing about the line.

Honestly the line sucked on both squads. There was no push from the line and some guys came in unblocked. I expected better, I wanted to see what the backs looked like but i really couldn't judge except that the freshman from Jersey looked just as good and the senior from Jersey I think he might have broke that screen play but there was some confusion with the guy on defense having the same color jersey as the offense. Some of experienced backs were fumbling.
From my understanding the blue team had the starting line so I am concerned. I also thought both back up QB's #17 and the Freshman had a better game than Seth. My last obeservation the spring season overall is that some of the younger Skill postions are playing just as good if not better than some of the upperclassmen. This says to me that recruiting has gotten better but I hope Collins plays some of the younger guys so that they can grow with the team and gain experience.

Both lines should improve by Sept. Remember we had two starters on the d-line and one starter out on the o-line. We've got some guys coming in August that will help too. :thumb:

This comment is a gas personally Beardown.

I feel if we are able to start the season with a reminder for that division 2 state college down south and have a good showing against WYO those big boys up front can go into conference playing confident and rolling. If things don't go as planned we can either hope to recover late in the season like last year or fall apart. But like coach Smith previously stated it should be fun to watch.

Yea, I love how "beardown" is not afraid to say whats on his mind !! (compliment) I think the key to a Bears successful season will rest on the OL !! No pressure guys but I am betting you will be up to the task !

You should count yourself lucky to have what you have :notworthy: Go to the SUU site I'm about ready to give up on it :dead:

Meh, this board isn't anything in the offseason, and even during the season it can get really slow. That is unless players get arrested, coaches get fired, etc.
