Spring Practice 2018

Whitmer was on the roster earlier. I'm guessing he isn't coming to Weber State now. Maybe it had something to do with the change in OCs? I'm totally guessing. Along with Whitmer not being on the roster any longer, Mason Tye was moved from TE to DL. What once was the deepest TE corp in the Sky, is now a little thin. Yet, maybe one of the guys playing TE will totally surprise us or coach has something up his sleeve. I'm not overly concerned. We were all worried with Tela leaving and Weber ended up having the best team in school history. Yes, Tela would have made the team that much better, but it didn't lessen what they accomplished.

I will take a look around at the next practice I attend and see if I can identify him on the field. Might be some other issues preventing him from being on the roster "officially". Or it may be yet another case where the athletic department is just not very good at updating the roster.

Well, Alema Key is still on the roster and he is definitely done with eligibility. Maybe whoever updates the roster messed up and accidentally erased Stice but kept Key?

Alema has been awarded a sixth year of eligibility and will be a super super senior in 2018.

Serious? That's awesome for Alema! He's been in the program for 10 years?

What about the other guys? If you can say anything.

Article in the Standard today said that Bruce and Stice are medically retired and that Whittmer will not be on the team for undisclosed reasons. One can only assume that there were some off the field issues with him. :coffee:

Sucks for Bruce and Stice to lose their senior seasons. Losing them will hurt the team, no doubt. But luckily, the program has some good depth at OL and LB, especially with Key returning. Mo Cannon filled in nicely with Bruce out at the end of the season and got some good experience. He, or someone else, will step up and fill Bruce's role just fine.

Nothing personal against Shaw but Im glad he isn't a QB anymore. I think the kid threw more touchdowns to opposing teams than he did completions to his own team.

Im kinda hoping Weber gives the starting job to Jenks. I know he is a freshman but I like what I saw from his highlights and giving him a chance to start early will help him in the long run.

Garside tweeted out this footage of Tuttle kicking a 54 yarder.

Career stats
11 of 24 with one TD and 5 INT
All 5 picks were against SUU
3 times SUU intercepted him for a TD. Twice in 2015 and once last year.

I think it is great that he wants to contribute to the team as a wide receiver.

Looks to me like a thre horse race for QB this spring and a couple more will be added in the late summer. I don't know how it will all turn out, but it looks like we will be deeper and more talented at that position. I know, I know, I know, Cantwell was a great leader and competitor and I am certainly not discounting what he accomplished at the position. I just think that fans are going to be happy with what we put on the field. :coffee:

For anyone coming to the spring game tomorrow, there will be a "yard sale" of athletic gear. I'm not sure all of what will be available, but there's a decent selection of hoodies, pants, tops, etc.. 12:00 to 2:00. Most everything will be $5, tee shirts are 2 for $5, and (I believe) shoes/cleats will be $10.

I couldn't make the Spring Game. Would love to hear your reports and thoughts if you did make it.

I attended. Play was choppy. There seemed to be a few problems with QB/RB exchanges. Several bad snaps as well.

Of the three QBs, I thought Jenks looked the best, but not by much. Statistically Miles was 8-12, Jenks was 5-11, and Ricedorff was 3-8. There were a few drops and some picks thrown as well.

WR Shaw has some size. He didn't look overly comfortable with the new position yet.

RB Smith was on crutches. Not sure when that happened.

Not sure there was a whole lot to measure the team by. It was a nice day to be outside watching the Cats.

The best thing about watching the first video you linked, was I thought I saw Stice #45 on the sideline, at 1:55. I checked the roster, and he is back on the roster. Fingers crossed.

Stice was on the field. Not sure if he took snaps. Lots of first team players sat out.
