Question: What was the reason for the Erection Project? What was wrong with the previoulsy erected lights?

Did you really have to use the word erection? come on honestly in this crowd that is asking for trouble. :D
You just opened the door for all sorts of pole/erection jokes.

Another example of how well Weber can "ERECT" its poles and lights...I wonder when the Grizz will get it up. Maybe we should give them a bottle of little blue pills.

Sacramento State has been taking those pill for years. Yet, It wasn't enough to convince the WAC to invite them. I guess their poles will stand unlit for years to come.

Yeah, you are right, enough with the SAC bashing, at least this summer.

Anyway, to football. I hear you guys are fielding a pretty decent team. I have you as the darkhorse for the conference crown. I think SAC, along with UNC, are going to be much improved next fall. Thats kinda an understatement of sorts. Both teams have steadily been improving the last few years.

The problem with SAC is injuries, inexperience, and consistency. Hopefully for the Hornets they've got those things worked out. I'd like to see some big W's during the OCC schedule, from all the conference schools. Improves the overall RPI of the conference. All in all though, I think the Sky is going to be really tough.

What is wrong with that? I don't get it...and why are you always so hard on me.

The previous lights were not bright enough to use for televised games or events. In the last couple of years if a night game was televised, they had to bring in extra lights. The new lights look great. The new poles are BIG, LONG and Straight. twss

I have seen the new lights in action, and they look great!! I'm very excited to see them with players on the field! They are very bright!

purplefogdog saw them last week and he said they are long and hard and can go all night long so long as the power source is constant.

We return all skilled position starters on offense and 2 of 5 linemen. We did land a Hofstra transfer to fill one of the 3 voids on the OL, the other two voids will be filled by returning underclassmen who have little to no experience.
On defense we return most everyone. We lost 2 DL starters and 1 starter in the secondary. Defense is where we need to make the most improvements. Sperbeck put in a new DC so I am hoping that he will shake things up and add some aggression and confidence to the defense.
Both our punter and kicker return so the kicking game will be solid.

I posted the recaps on SacBuzz if anyone is interested:

New Lights To Brighten Up Stewart Stadium
ISKLHBOXLQPROIR.20100621165653.jpg

OGDEN, Utah -- Evening and night time events at Weber State’s Stewart Stadium will be 30 percent brighter than they have been in the past, thanks to a new lighting system being installed this week. The new system not only allows for more light on the field, but will be safe and energy efficient as well.

“Our old light poles and fuse box system were worn out and there were safety issues we needed to address,” said WSU athletic director, Jerry Bovee. “These new lights are state of the art in terms of foot candle power to the field and can be turned on, and controlled, by various methods. They have been installed and designed to withstand 100 miles per hour wind forces and their seismic rating has been upgraded to current building code requirements.”

The lighting intensity, which was 50 foot candles, has now been up graded to the NCAA broadcast level of 80 foot candles. The two west poles stand 130 feet high. Not only does the new system increase the lighting power, but does so by using the same amount of energy as the old lights.

The unique feature of the new lights is they can be controlled (turned on and off, dimmed and brightened) via computers, which makes for a lot of flexibility depending on what types of events are being held in the Stadium. WSU's first two home football games of the 2010 season, Sept. 11 vs. Northern Colorado and Sept. 25 (Homecoming Game) vs. UC Davis will be the first games under the new lighting conditions.

In addition, power distribution to the east press box and ticket booths have also been upgraded to comply with current building codes.

The system was designed by Electrical Consulting Engineers (ECE) from of Salt Lake City, Utah. The lights were manufactured and delivered by MUSCO, one of the nation’s leaders in collegiate stadium lighting, out of Muscatine, Iowa. Installation of the poles and lights is being done by J&J Electric from Ogden, Utah

No offense, but while your poles do look long, they are rather thin.

Boston College utilizes a lighting system with a far wider alignment, with undulating light streams. The resulting girth of the lighting system is impressive, and leaves everyone satisfied with the gameday experience.

that is an interesting lighting system on your stadium, all that girth but not much length yet it more than gets the job done. i also would assume Boston's system would have more photons coming in the stadium than Webers. do you know what the release ratio is?

Most lighting systems produce approximately a 100,000,000 to 1 ratio. BC's, however, produces more like 500,000,000 each time the light system is fired up. And it can be energized multiple times each night. Female fans in particular have described the sensation as feeling as if the light was "swimming" over them.

How can they go that many times in one night? That is not possible Utah style...
Do the lights ever come on before the female fans are ready?

Our light system has been up for about four years now. During Freshman and even into Sophomore year, premature energizations was admittedly a major problem and left many of the female fans disappointed. But by senior year all the kinks were worked out and things were working smoothly - greater control of the Webers regularly led to simultanous climaxing of all the lights' photon streams at kickoff.

that is interesting...our players have something to look forward to!

here at weber while we may not have the latest cutting edge lighting system, we are very proud of our new upgrade which couldn't have been completed without our ROTC program.

Our ROTC students who will be going to officer school to the Navy after graduation made this all possible with their blood, sweat and tears. It was a very large group, one to be proud of.

I walked by the stadium near completion to see the newly erected shafts, there were seamon all over the stadium.

Wow, that's impressive.

BC does not have a Navy ROTC unit on campus, so most or our seamen shoot down to nearby Boston University for that. We BC guys like to spread our seamen around.

We look forward to welcoming the Weber State folks coming up to Boston for the game. The long-range forecast calls for rain that weekend - so bring your rubbers!
