Well we're complaining of 20 years of having to look at ugly high school bleachers which it seems they want to make permanent. I don't see what is so hard to understand about that.
Sounds like a good reason to not make the high school bleachers permanent and they will be filled for big games like Montana, Montana State and Homecoming.

I was gonna say, they had a architecture firm draw mock ups and make plans. Chaves had a plan to use public and private dollars. You don't do all that and keep it private.

Pretty sure those bleachers are for students...they are selling the seats that use to be students seating for $65/60 50/55...that was a revenue building move. So visitors side for students and selling to visitors coming in from out of town and also for locals for cheaper than home side seats, Now, if anyone knows different say so. So my guess that is the way it will stay so why spend a bunch more money on better seating at least in phase two. Maybe if we start winning hey could put in better seating and get more students to come in and sell some of those seats for higher price and I'm ok with that.

Idk man, I just don't think a NCAA Division 1 school should have high school bleachers. A lot of high schools in the south have nicer stadiums then we do. If they build the press box in such a way that they can upgrade to something more better later then fine, whatever. The Montana schools make fun of us for them anyway, but sure lets make it permanent.
The committment level to make us like a legimate fcs program doesnt appear to be there. It appears that we are settling. When president Arevalo was here he made huge strides for EWU and we lost that momentum. We have an alumni super bowl MVP and yet we have high school bleachers. The trustees and the current EWU administration are not moving EWU forward towards the next level.

It’s funny, because it’s a completely opposite take than the folks who are critical of the BoT, hate athletics, and describe any improvements to them as a vanity project. I think the truth is actually somewhere in between.

They're not going to make those people happy unless they completely defund athletics. "The truth is actually somewhere inbetween"? They're going to be the same amount of unhappy not matter the size of the pressbox they build. Making it smaller because it might offend them less is ridiculous, imo.
Agreed. Those people are so miserable. Nothing better to do than spending years and years trying to defund athletics, which is never going to happen anyway.

My impression is that the new press box will be a centerpiece that anchors that side of the stadium. I don't think the building itself has anything to do with whether the stands currently in place are "permanent." Why would they be, and why couldn't new seating be built around them at some point in the future regardless of whether they remain in place now or the new few years?

Well there is only so much space between the press box and the track. If one day they got rid of the track and moved the field to the west side and if they press box was high enough they could add some bigger stands. They could do what Ranger's AI renderings show and build some bigger stands on the side of the press box.
But as it stands, if they replace the high school bleachers with the press box behind it they would just have to replace it with something that looks similar.

This is definitely true, and I considered that as well. I'm hoping they're not going to build that new press box so close to the field that it would prohibit building something in front of it in the future without having the remove the track.
Looking at the picture below, it doesn't seem like there's a ton of space in front of where the press box will sit. I assume that the placement has something to do with the entrance to the parking lot behind it, because you're also dealing with constraints on space there.
I think they could still build new seating in front of it in the future. There's a lot of vertical space there, and there's nothing to say that the center section couldn't be lower than the rest of it which could extend vertically to either side of the building.

I agree with you. I guess my point was that the BoT is ultimately in a position of being damned if they do, damned if they don't, and both sides of the argument have influence. So what you end up with is some sort of compromise.

I was walking by that the other day they would need to push back the pressbox to pretty much the sidewalk to make stands equivalent to the west side on the east side, which would cut off parking to the lower north parking lot. I don't think it gets used that much anyway though, I think its where the fraternities and sororities set up their tailgate.
