Standard: Stadium Renovation updates

Can't really blame the legislature. Cuts have to happen when there is no money. Only thing that can be blamed is the economy. It sucks, and will for a while. This is exactly why I am so impressed with Bovee, to be successfully funding and completing improvement projects funded by donors in this economy is impressive, and deserves praise, not the other way around.

Hopefully they haven't settled on that field design though, because WildCats rendition is 100x better.

On the subject of the Athletic Department not supporting other programs, such as the spirit squad. I'd have to say we are lacking. I am a HUGE fan of college football and the gameday experience that it provides. Weber State does not do a good enough job of providing this. As a 3 year member of the Drumline and Marching Band, I can say, from first hand experience, that the Athletic Department doesn't necessarily care for providing an 'atmosphere'. The band is constantly being asked to take a smaller and smaller role in football games. Whether you like to watch marching band or not, you have to admit that it is one of the biggest parts of a college football atmosphere. Hearing that they cut funding for our spirit squad just further strengthens my belief that Weber State Athletics either isn't committed to selling a college game experience to the fans or simply doesn't understand what that is. Watch any national broadcast of college football and you'll see cheerleaders and marching bands. Cutting our spirit squads funding is unacceptable, in my opinion.

agreed. i love going to wsu road games cuz atmosphere is much better. band is a big reason. our band has been shrinking over the years. i would love to see a wsu band of 100. band needs to be a bigger role. we wondered why it was lacking. i assumed it was the band's fault. good to know the band agrees and is not at fault.

i woudl also love to see the full band at a basketball game and do a halftime show. or even the drumline performing. that would be fun to see.

I'd be lying if I told you that a small portion of the band's size problem wasn't internal. BUT, the majority comes from the fact that there isn't an atmosphere conducive to a good college band experience. The athletic departments at BYU and the U do great jobs supporting their bands. I know this because I have friends in both programs. I'd really like to see the athletics department be more supportive of a good college game atmosphere. The drumline will be bigger this year, I can only imagine the band will have grown as well. Things are improving, so please keep supporting the band.

As for your basketball game comment... I can tell you that your wish should be coming true. We have a championship Winter Drumline program on campus and plans are in the works to not only perform halftimes for basketball games but to have a drumline present to 'jam' at timeouts etc...

There are a few of us, both students and instructors, in the Marching Band and Drumline trying to improve the atmosphere for our fans. It's good to hear your comments and know that people want the same things we do.

 Anything that can be done to improve the overall college game experience would be welcomed by me. These are some good ideas.
