Starting 5, top 3 reserves, and redshirts

Ok, now that I have watched the team play, I feel I have a better feel for who they are. I know it was just a 25 minutes scrimmage, and you really can't take a whole lot from it, but from what I saw this is what I think.
The Starting 5.

PG. Senglin. I thought he looked great. He will content for all league honors.

SG. Golden. He didn't shoot much, but he seemed to have a good feel out here. If he can average about 10 ppg and shoot between 35-40 % from 3 point, then that would be great. I was most impressed with his passing last night.

SF. Gittens. He seems to be one of the main leaders and you can see he has that "it" factor. He still was a little out of control, but he will be very good for us. I think he is our best perimeter defensive. He could lead the league in steals.

PF. Hill. I am probably a little higher on Hill than others, but I really think he is going to be good. He will play some SF for us, but PF is his main position. Him and Bolomboy playing together is going to be fun.

C. Bolomboy. Holly Poop, he looked good last night. Man among boys. He will contend for MVP in the Sky. Talking to Talhad4steals last night, we agree there is nobody in the Big Sky that will be able to handle him. As long as he stays healthy and out of foul trouble then LOOK OUT!!!!! He will be a double double machine.

Top 3 reserves

Hunter. I thought he looks most ready of the Freshman to contribute right away. Great passer, ball handler and good perimeter defense. Maybe not a great scorer, but that's ok. He is a pass first guy, which is fine by me.

Costen. He struggled a little, but you can see he is a solid player. I would love to see him average about 7 PPG and 5-7 rebounds per game. It might take him a few games to get his groove.

Hajek. I was really pleased with him. He looks in much better shape and is ready to contribute in a big way. I'm really pulling for him to have a great SR year. You can tell the team really looks up to him.

Redshirts.

That leaves Jefferson, Richardson and Braxton. Braxton is absolutely good enough to play and contribute this year, but with Bolomboy and Hakek, I can see the coaches really wanting to try and redshirt him. The thought of him being the first big guy off the bench next year then having 3 years to start at Center makes me excited. He can and will be the man, but based on what I saw, a redshirt in the long run would be great for him and the program. Jefferson and Richardson both look like they can be studs, but they totally looked like Freshman last night. I predict one of them will play a little and the other will redshirt. If I had to guess, I would say Richardson plays and Jefferson redshirts. I guess we will see. I like how we look. Lots of potential. I bet we lead the league in dunks this year. I wish they kept track of that stat. haha. Cant wait till November 14. This could be the year we beat those turds up in Logan.

What is the max number of eligible players we can have on a roster? And what's the max number we can redshirt?

There is no max on either of those two things. The only max is on the number of scholarships, 13. The only other max, that I know of, is the number you can take on the road in the BSC, 12. At home, I think you could have 40 on your bench if you wanted to.

Did any of you notice that they ran a lineup of Hunter at the point and Senglin on the wing, in the third session. That may well be an indication of how far Hunter has progressed. If he is the first guard off the bench, it may limit Golden's time at the point and diminish the need for a solid 5th guard off the bench.

Just Sayin!! :stir:

 :agree:

Wazzu...I totally agree. Starting 5:

Senglin: As a Soph, he could, by the end of the season, be the best PG in the league. He is for sure on track to being a 1st teamer.

Golden: I kept telling myself last night that Bamforth, in his first P&W game was kinda a bust. Golden reminded me of that. Golden could play either the 2 or 1. In the final stanza the coaches let Golden take the point a bit and I felt he did an adequate job. He is solid defensively which came as a bit of a shock after looking at his offensive numbers from his time at a JC. He will be a great 2 guard for the Cats.

Gittens: He has gotten big. He is quick, stronger, and a bit more controlled. Yes, he is a bit too out of control still, but that is Gittens. I wouldn't want it any other way. Lol, but seriously, the kid has really picked up his game. He could be a 1st teamer too.

Hill: Yep...he is coming along nicely. He could end up being our most improved player. Love how he can extend the defense with his shooting abilities and how teams play back on him because of his speed and athleticism. He will burn slower bigs cause of his speed. They wont be able to stay in front of him. He will fly right by them. If he plays the 3, he is stronger than any other 3 in the league.

Bolomboy: YIKES!! Need I say more. He needs to keep working hard and most importantly needs to stay grounded, but he has come a long way. He could end up being the MVP if he plays up to his potential and doesn't get intimidated.

Reserves:

Hunter: Hayden will be the first off the bench at guard. He could play either the 1 or 2. He has great court vision. He doesn't have a huge "Wow" factor, but is a solid blue collar point guard. He is steady and smart. He just does things the right way. He will only get better and make others around him better because of his steadiness.

Coston: This kid can flat out jump. He needs to become a far better shooter, but I think he offensive game will come. Defensively he is a beast. I'm glad he is on our side. He is definitely another Mook type athlete but better and more mobile. He will only get better

Hajek: Can't believe how much he has developed over the past season. He is determined to have a good senior season and is willing to help out in whatever situation he is put in. If that is coaching or giving encouragement from the bench or playing 10 tough mins on the floor. He is going to bring it either way.

RedShirts:

Richardson can play and would contribute, but a redshirt could really help him strengthen his game. He is extremely talented and can definitely ball. He is the player most over-looked by this forum, but personally, I think he might end up being a star. He has a lot of potential and needs to grow quite a bit, but he will get there. You can tell how driven he is.

Jefferson because of his injury you can tell he had been bitten by the buggyman he needs to find his confidence and a red shirt would really help him do that. He could come back and end up being one of the top players on the team. He has to stay grounded.

Braxton....well I can definitely see him making an impact for the team this year and most importantly he would definitely contribute. To me, he would be a top candidate for freshman of the year. A red shirt might be good, but getting some good playing time might also be good. I think coach and him will make the best decision. NO matter, love his game. He is going to be something special. Gotta keep working hard!!

Jordan Brown or JC Kennedy might be able to give the Cats 5min a game if the other guards get into foul trouble. That would allow both Richardson and Jefferson to red shirt.

Red shirting three of the freshmen would be a gamble. An injury might force you to pull the red shirt off of one of them. With no injuries, red shirting those three players might be best for the team and best for them to develop. It also gives them that extra year of academics and helps them to graduate on time.

I think you make a good point Olds. I don't think you see all three RS. Actually, I don't think any of them will RS. I think they will all play. Braxton will be starting at the 5 by January.
