And as the article points out, in 2007-08 McCaffrey was the Gatorade Player of the Year. Does this look promising for 2012 or what?! About this time I start worrying about oral as opposed to written comitments.

Excellent news. May this new breed of Vikings destroy the big sky. Get your helmet on, Horndogs!

Fingers crossed until we get the written commitments.

If Long does come here, then he hopefully will be another Cory and tear up opposing run defenses. We shall have YARDS!

I like the synonymous name "Horndogs" carrying reference to Viking horns (and the recent AD 'get horny' campaign---Horndogs are certainly that). As we build up a sense of Tradition and identity here at Portland State, might the term "Morbos" be good to include as he is as green as the Oregon flora and undauntedly, sustainably seeks out to destroy! ... as all good Viking have a tendency to do.

Not a bad day on the gridiron.

Some very sad news. My prayers go out to this young man and his family.

Prayers Requested For Lake Oswego and PSU Star Steven Long

Please stop what you are doing and listen. Steven Steven J. Long one of our boys- our NW kids- who is a champion in every way a person can be a champion needs us.

He is facing a surgery tomorrow at OHSU for a Brain Tumor they have found. He has been having seizures the last day or so and the docs are going in to get it tomorrow.

Anyone that knows this young man knows he is the kind of person who you might meet very few times in a lifetime. It was my great fortune to have been able to watch him develop and to meet his family at a time when he was defeating everyone in his way.

He helped deliver Lake Oswego their first State Championship and who could forget the 56-46 win over the Skyline Spartans where Long went for 464 yards and 7 TD’s.

We love this kid.

We love all you guys.

Steven needs your prayers and your Love. Please post this message and pic to your timeline and if you can save the pic and post to your banner for a couple days.

SHARE and PRAYER!

Steven Long Get 100% back Soon!

+ May he fight like a winner during his surgery, that the doctors at OHSU outshine themselves, that this surgery remove the brain tumor in full, that it not metastasize, that the seizures stop, that he experience a full recovery and minimal scarring, that his life be improved and remain improved for the rest of his life, that he be able to play the game of football he loves so much brilliantly. +Amen.

Steven Long, PSU running back and former Lake Oswego star, to have brain surgery

http://www.oregonlive.com/vikings/index.ssf/2013/04/steven_long_psu_running_back_a.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Portland State running back Steven Long, the 2011 Class 6A offensive player of the year at Lake Oswego, will have surgery to remove a growth on his brain in the coming days.

Long suffered a seizure while sleeping Thursday morning and went to OHSU Hospital, where the growth was discovered. Portland State sports information director Mike Lund said the surgery will be Sunday or Monday at OHSU.

Vikings coach Nigel Burton, who was with Long at the hospital Thursday morning, said doctors don’t know about the nature of the growth.
“They won’t really know until they open him up and take it out,” Burton said. “Steven is handling it a lot better than I am or anybody else I know. He’s just an unbelievable young man. I think a case study should be done on how to handle adversity by using him.”

Long was adopted from a Haitian orphanage at age 4 by Jeff and Angie Long, who met him while on a missions trip. Despite his small stature, the 5-foot-7, 175-pound Long rushed for nearly 5,000 yards during his high school career at Class 5A Sherwood and Class 6A Lake Oswego.

As a senior, he rushed for 2,205 yards and 37 touchdowns in helping the Lakers to a 14-0 record and their first state championship. He ran for 322 yards and four scores in a 47-14 win over Sheldon in the state final.

Long greyshirted at Portland State last season because of an Achilles injury, joining the team for the first time during the winter. His teammates have rallied around him as he prepares for surgery, Burton said.

“We love him,” Burton said. “He’s got an extended family. Shoot, once I told the team, they’ve been pretty much going nonstop to the hospital. They’re probably wearing out the staff over there.”

In my thoughts today. Wishing the best for this young man.

GREAT NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :thumb:

From Coach Burton's twitter page:

Success! @SL_11TD out of surgery. Non-cancerous growth was removed & expect full recovery. He's in good spirits & should be no reoccurrence.
