StateHornet is reporting that up to 3 programs could be cut and the department is operating at a $500K loss this year. Any students care to offer their opinion on if this would pass given that the students are protesting higher fees, etc. Sounds like a snowball's chance in hell of passing.

Maybe Pres. Gonzo can take a play out of the SDSU playbook and forcibly raise student fees for the benefit of the University (athletic programs). This would solve everything for at least the next fiscal year.

I like it, part of the betterment of the student experience. These fees would provide scholarships, jobs and opportunities to many students.

The fiscal year runs July 1 to June 30 and is the State's budget calendar year.

Don't look for any girls' sports to get canned. Title IX watchdogs will scream bloody murder about that.

If anything, look for boys' track and perhaps baseball to get the boot.

Does title IX require a school to sponsor the same number of teams for men and women or just offer the same amount of scholarships? The only reason I aske is because there are 50 more female athletes at Sac State than there are male athletes.

It is based on % of men/women

There are more women than men at Sac State, so therefore there needs to be more women opportunities. More schollie $$ is given to women than men at Sac State because of this rule.

It is my understanding that cross country and track are core sports in the Big Sky meaning that you must have these teams to be in the conference otherwise you are kicked out. An example would be when Northridge decided to drop football which is also a core sport in the BSC. Once they dropped that sport, they were gone. I think there are six core sports programs for the men and eight for the women in the BSC.
