Why did the students rush the field? I know the Victory Bell and everything, but seriously? Maybe if Weber were the underdogs in the game, and the team had just pulled off an incredible upset. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. UNC wasn't suppose to beat Weber, the game wasn't suppose to be that close, in all reality the students should have been ashamed that it took 4 overtimes to win a game that the Cats should have lost a couple of times. That just tells us how little the student body knows about Weber State sports. However, on the flip side, I was happy there were some students at the game (700 out of 24K).
A. the Defense was terrible. The Defensive Ends played the worst game that I have seen in a decade. They are suppose to contain, which wasn't what was happening. Granted, I think they played well against Boston College in the second half, so I'm sure they will improve. They are really young. I think 75% of the DL are underclassmen. No matter, they need to grow up fast and the idiots running the defense need to figure out how to help them while keeping the middle closed.
B. Turnovers!! WTF... Serious? I'm sick of the undiscipline nature of the teams. Granted, penalties and turnovers are going to happen with a young team, but shouldn't be happening because of the seniors. 2 by Cam, 2 by Tafuna, and 1 by Collins... Three SRs. They need to lead!
C. Special teams, especially the punting team. YIKES!! How do you have 6 guys around a man and allow him to break into the open field?
D. Tackling...It was beyond poor today. You can't just run at a guy and hit him. WRAP UP, and drive him back.
All of these issues are basics. This team has the potential to being really good, but until they figure out the basics they wont be. Thankfully, we have MAC. He will have the guys working on the little things. I am concerned about the 4th quarter play calling. We had them on the ropes and didn't go for the knockout. Instead we lost our imagination and tried to run out the clock with 10 mins to go leading by 7. That isn't the way to win a game like yesterdays. You need to knockout the other team.
