Students?

Call me cheap, but Wal-Mart has some about 4 different kinds of CSUS shirts with the new logo for $6 each. They're surprisingly nice looking.

Are you serious?! Which Wal Mart, I would love to buy some.

Check out the Super Wal-Mart in West Sac next to Ikea. They had about 4 different variations and all sizes. They have white, gray, and green shirts with the new logo. Some are football specific, others just say Sac State or Sacramento State Hornets.

Thanks Kadeezy, I'm going Friday. I remember seeing Sac State gear at a few local Target store's as well, The Natomas one for sure. I will patronize any establishment that carries Sac State apparel or supports Sac State.

I bought three already for my buddies to wear to the Week 1 game when they came down.

Awesome, I have purchased one this season and three last season for buddies that didnt have one, of course I purchased them at the game. It can get expensive, knowing that they have them at Wal Mart, for $6, I'll be sure to stock up.

This is great info, I wonder what kind of advertising the school has done to let students know. Of course, they would probably want the students to buy from the bookstore though. I remember reading an article a while back talking about the proceeds of Sac State gear from Target, the school was only getting 8% of the sale price.

Is there any talk of the games on KHTK's Sportsline 1140?

I often listen to Grant and Mike during my commute home. On the rare occassion that they talk about CSUS it is in a joking tone. In some past seasons they’d have a football coach on occasionally, but I haven’t heard a Sac one on yet this year. For that matter, the Aggies have had a bit of exposure, but not much either.

Greg Knapp (Sac football alum, Raiders OC) was on a couple weeks ago and they laughingly threw in a comment about Sac State. Greg ran with it and was genuinely happy and impressed with where the program is going. Kudos to Knapp!

The band doesnt help much either, they dont pay attention to the game and are all to often screwing around. The hay snoopy song, well, its got to go. That song doesnt get anyone pumped or excited.

I personally take a little offense to this comment. As someone involved with the organization, I can say it is a very difficult time for the program. We have gone through three directors in two years, and with our new permanent director comes a lot of change and adjustments. We practically have to rebuild the program. Many of the band members are very active in the game, it is simply very difficult when you make up half the student section. We try to entertain as best we can, despite the confusion and lack of communication that can occur during games. This will hopefully be resolved as soon as the new director is comfortable and understands how game days play out. I hope everyone is patient with us.

As for sloopy, I know it doesn't pump anyone up, the band just really likes to play it. Sorry. I wish we had more tunes that got people excited. Maybe soon.

Hey Band dude,
Hang in there man, it will get better!!!! I like the way you guys come through the parking garage tunnel and then weave through the parking lot... Helps the feel of game day!!!!!!

The Sac State Band has been doing the tailgating thing for at least 12 years now. Its an awesome tradition!

Band Dude - Keep playing the music. Take your trumpet on campus and rally the troops. The Sac State Band is awsome. I love you guys at the tailgate. You bring real spirit!

Banddude, my post wasnt intended to offend or degrade anyone. I was just pointing out that there is lack of concentration during the game, the band plays a huge role in getting the crowd going. I really like, like many other posters, when you guys come through the garage and then weave through the tailgates, its awesome.

But in all honesty, the sloopy song really sucks.

Again, Im sorry for offending you, it was not my intention.

Army's in the past were lead by the bugle calls and the drum beats of their Drum and Bugle Corps. I know the Sac State band is not in an army; however, football is a struggle between two teams and could be used as a modern day analogy of those battles of long ago.

Therefore, I think Stungalum is suggesting the band be used as more of an instrument to 1)encourage the fans, 2)create a more intimidating presence to visiting teams, and 3)to destroy the enemy…sorry about that last part. A great example of what I am talking about is marching through the garage tunnel. That is very cool and motivating. I also liked the Star Wars stuff. So, as a former band member (not Sac State, Trumpet), I whole-heartedly encourage more band participation. Maybe a little more Trumpet, too. Perhaps a “Charge!” now and again would be cool. So, we are all behind you Banddude and the rest of the band. Literally, most of us are sitting right behind you.

Also, why aren’t the Fight Song lyrics in the program? Are these them?

"Fight, Hornet, Fight"

Fight on, Sacramento State, Fight on to victory.
The Hornet is on the wing.
The foe will know that we can show them
We're meant for fame and glory.
All the World will know
The Hornet's NEST is BEST in the WEST by TEST!
Sacramento State, LET'S GO!!!

Second also, I was on campus several times before the Weber State game. I was by the bookstore, library and Hornet Tunnel. There was no advertising anywhere for the game. What is up with that?

Go Hornets!!!

Anyone get a chance to pick some of these up?

There appeared to be a total of 27 students at the game, their section up front looked totally vacant. How can they attract more students, move the game to 6PM?

Although there was a significant amount of people at the Homecoming game, It had to be at least 1/4 or maybe even 1/3 that left at halftime. Honestly, I think the only way more students come to the games is if Sac State Football becomes a winning program. We have to remember that MOST fans are "band-wagon fans" and they don't feel the need to support unless we win. Obviously it should be the contrary, but I know that's just how it is. Although I graduated, I still have friends who still attend the school. I ask them why they don't go to the game and I get the same answers all the time: "We suck". "We're not winning". "We'll never win". etc. On the other hand, as Kadeezy mentioned earlier, the kickoff at 2:05 PM hurts significantly. Forget about the hangovers and all that (It's valid though. I never thought of that). It is ENTIRELY too hot out there! We're out there at the hottest time of the day and I could see why the people who DO attend the games end up being drained or lose their energy by halftime. Then the students or people who don't go probably think to themselves "It's hot.... I'm going to be out there for at least 3 hours... and on top of all that, we're going to the lose. I'll just be wasting my time." No, it's not an optimistic view of looking at things, but that may be how their reasoning works and I can see or understand their point if I put myself in the shoes of an "unmotivated" student. I remember when Moose had the games in the evening... EVERYBODY was there aside from when it was raining or it was extremely cold, but I believe most people do better with winter versus summer. I don't know why Sperbeck chose afternoon kickoffs... Must be a Jr. College thing....

In any case, I don't wanna go on a rant. I think what I mentioned above along with someone's idea of getting T-Shirts and giving the student section a name (i.e. The trashy Raiders and their "Black Hole") could work, but we actually NEED the students to wear the shirts and be dedicated as well. Until we start getting to conference champions, we may need to have better "entertainment" at the games for those who aren't motivated.

What did you think? Decent for $6?

They were $10 when I bought them, but yes, they are a good deal. The bookstore doesnt have the designs available at Wal Mart. I got one that read "Green & Gold Forever" and some others that read "GO HORNETS!".

The bookstore should really start getting some slogans on their shirts that promote pride like the ones at Wal Mart.
