There appeared to be a total of 27 students at the game, their section up front looked totally vacant. How can they attract more students, move the game to 6PM?
Although there was a significant amount of people at the Homecoming game, It had to be at least 1/4 or maybe even 1/3 that left at halftime. Honestly, I think the only way more students come to the games is if Sac State Football becomes a winning program. We have to remember that MOST fans are "band-wagon fans" and they don't feel the need to support unless we win. Obviously it should be the contrary, but I know that's just how it is. Although I graduated, I still have friends who still attend the school. I ask them why they don't go to the game and I get the same answers all the time: "We suck". "We're not winning". "We'll never win". etc. On the other hand, as
Kadeezy mentioned earlier, the kickoff at 2:05 PM hurts significantly. Forget about the hangovers and all that (It's valid though. I never thought of that). It is ENTIRELY too hot out there! We're out there at the hottest time of the day and I could see why the people who DO attend the games end up being drained or lose their energy by halftime. Then the students or people who don't go probably think to themselves "It's hot.... I'm going to be out there for at least 3 hours... and on top of all that, we're going to the lose. I'll just be wasting my time." No, it's not an optimistic view of looking at things, but that may be how their reasoning works and I can see or understand their point if I put myself in the shoes of an "unmotivated" student. I remember when Moose had the games in the evening... EVERYBODY was there aside from when it was raining or it was extremely cold, but I believe most people do better with winter versus summer. I don't know why Sperbeck chose afternoon kickoffs... Must be a Jr. College thing....
In any case, I don't wanna go on a rant. I think what I mentioned above along with someone's idea of getting T-Shirts and giving the student section a name (i.e. The trashy Raiders and their "Black Hole") could work, but we actually NEED the students to wear the shirts and be dedicated as well. Until we start getting to conference championships, we may need to have better "entertainment" at the games for those who aren't motivated.
