SUU Dejavu

STGWildcat, I'm sorry you had to pay to watch this crap fest. Between the terrible teams and horrible officiating, the Big Sky has become unwatchable. Last I looked the conference's RPI ranked 28th out of 32 conferences, and dead last in western conferences (even the WAC is ranked higher). SUU is in the bottom 20 of 351 teams. And the conference's only answer to improving the conference is to invite all teams to a neutral tournament. :wall: When does football start?
Hopefully whoever is selected as the new Big Sky Commish will have the stones to make the changes that this conference dearly needs (not the current tourney format). I hope the new commish will clean house in the basketball Ref department. Jon Stigliano should go back to his job as the crypt keeper on HBO's Tales from the crypt and stop pretending to be a basketball ref. Its truly sad that the Big Sky RPI is so damn low, maybe they should go back to allowing Big Sky teams to bring in prop 48 players. :twocents:

That game was officiated exactly like the BSC administration wanted. Fullerton and his girl probably made some good money in Reno on this one. They are probably thinking that there was no harm in it. The team that should have won did and they make a little money on the side. No one is hurt, right?

They will probably get a lot of resume's for Fullerton's job now. Everybody will know that you can make a lot of money on the side and get away with it. That's the beauty of having the refs in your pocket and not having to deal with that silly consortium. :wall:

Olds..Nate Harris, one of the refs last night, is a Pac12 ref that I have personally seen ref Cal games at least 2 times this year...so your consortium theory has some holes...the same refs that are in the consortium are reffing BSC games as well as consortium games...check the box scores for the refs names, Cal vs Oregon St Feb 13, Cal vs Arizona St. Jan 21, Nate Harris reffed both of those games and he reffed Weber's game last night in Cedar City...just the facts...

By inviting all the teams to compete in the tournament the big sky has hurt the conferences image more than helped it. This isn't the ACC or Big East where every team in your conference get to the dance, This is the Big Sky where one and only one team gets to the dance. And by moving it to a neutral site you hurt your chances at sending your best school.

If anything, the conference should limit the amount of teams to either 6 or 8 and then play a full conference schedule all teams twice home and away, I would much rather watch a home game against Eastern Washington and Idaho than some of the piddlies we played this year

Sac; I know that BSC refs can officiate outside of the conference. I was just stirring the pot a bit. I don't really think that Fullerton would actually fix a game to make a few extra bucks. However, watching that game, it did appear to be somewhat orchestrated. There were many head scratching calls that made it look like the refs wanted a certain point spread. Maybe Harris is one of the PAC12's best officials, I don't know. I do believe that all of our BSC refs are following the direction of the BSC director of officials. When some of our refs are doing games for the consortium, I believe that they are following the directions from that organization. :coffee:

What did we learn from this game?

1. A win is a win. A very ugly win, but a win none the less.

2. Watching a game in which there are 80 free throw attempts is boring, unproductive, and overall a bad look for the league. I don't know how officials are trained and I'm not saying that I could do better, because it is a tough job they have, but there needs to be some kind of consistency in NCAA basketball. How can the players adequately prepare with such a wide variance in how games are called? And again, it's very boring to watch. Even for hardcore fans.

3. Speaking of free throws. 63% is what we finished at last night. I think my churchball team could shoot a better percentage from the stripe. These are D1 players for crying out loud! Shooting that poorly will lose us close games come conference tourney time.

4. Senglin needs to diversify his game. He is very good at what he does. Dribble-drive and catch and shoot threes, but he needs to develop into a better all around player.

5. Bolomboy is a freak. He is far and away the best player in the conference this year.

6. Southern Utah has possibly the most annoying fan base of any school in the country.

7. We need to play a lot better if we even want a snowball's chance in hell in making the NCAA tourney.

Haha. Thanks for the condolences. It only cost $10.00/ticket (any seat in the place), and I live about an hour away from Cedar City, so it wasn't a big deal financially. I don't get many chances to see Weber State in person since I'm not in Northern Utah, so it was fun to see the team for the first time in quite awhile. I never took the opportunity to see Damian Lillard in person (perhaps I'll go to an NBA game of his someday, though I like the college atmosphere more), so I figured my time to see Bolomboy is running out.

And despite the fact that Hill hasn't blossomed into a reliable starter (consistently), he's one of my favorite players, and I wanted to see him too. I like the way he carries himself, and I'm holding out hope that he can figure things out consistently before his four years are up.

My thoughts on the game won't be as good as all of yours since I was trying to take in the atmosphere (I eventually ended up three rows behind Weber's bench) just as much as I was paying attention to the ball at all times. Despite how close the game was, I was rarely worried that Weber was going to lose that game--just a feeling I had. But I can't imagine how upset I would've been had they blown the lead at the end.

On a final note, I imagine many of you have been to a road game. I'm not looking for any excuses for the team--I'm just trying to put things into perspective--but it's a lot more loud and intense in person than it is on TV where they drown out the loud music and crowd noise. There are obviously louder arenas than Centrum, but I was expecting to go there and be able to be heard by everyone in the arena if I were to yell something in support of Weber or against SUU. Yes, Weber should've beaten SUU more soundly, but I underestimated the tense atmosphere since it's not a Big Sky arena that's Weber State or Montana, and of course the referees are garbage and didn't help.

What is it about Southern Utah fans that makes you think they're the most annoying fanbase in the country? In my opinion, they're not even in the top three most annoying fanbases in Utah. The most annoying for me in Utah, and maybe even in country is...

(1) Utah State
(2) BYU
(3) I like the Utes, but I despise their basketball coach and athletic director, so they are on this list for the time being

Do you know any Ute fans? This Pac 12 stuff from them drives me nuts! Not so much football where the whole P-5 thing actually means something. But their P-5 arguments for why they are so great at basketball and why they won't play anyone in state anymore show how stupid a great majority of their fanbase is -- which is why their turd AD and coward basketball coach are getting away with their crap. Do you actually think the majority of their idiot fans know that #1 Nova doesn't even play D-1 football? They don't...

I hate how the Utes continually get a pass anymore around here. For me, they've easily surpassed the Y for annoying and to my great surprise zipped past the aggies as well. No one is worse than their Johnny-come-lately fans who have no perspective on anything except that they have arrived at the promised land and the rest of us are just little kids. The U in a blowout:

1) Utes
2) Aggies
3) Cougars
4) SUU

Do you know any Ute fans?

https://youtu.be/6A3quSLt-Pc?t=28

I guess it all depends on what types of fans we've individually associated with. I grew up in the Salt Lake area as a child, so naturally I can tolerate the Utes and have a sibling who graduated from there. I know good people who attended there who are decent human beings. Both Utes and Cougar fans gave me flack when I wore Weber State attire in elementary school in the Salt Lake area, so I can't exactly say I'm totally fond of either fanbase.

Like I said, I can't stand Krystkowiak, even ignoring the fact he went to Montana, so the Utes aren't high on my list right now. I tolerated their football team and even hoped they did well when they were in the top 10 this past year in football, probably because they don't have many connections to Weber football. But the basketball season started, I was reminded of how much of a buffoon Krystkowiak is for wimping out against in-state schools, including canceling their next game against BYU, and I stopped following Ute related things on social media. I just happen to dislike Utah State and BYU more. I'm sure we all have our personal reasons that cause us to form our opinions.

I was mostly referring to the SUU fans on the radio broadcast who would protest every single call and drown out the broadcasters. It was getting on my nerves while listening to the game. They must have been sitting right behind Steve Klauke.

Also, I find it annoying that they stuck the KLO broadcasters up in the upper bowl of the area. Does SUU not have a normal media area for broadcasters? It just seems like every Weber/SUU game I've been to there have been some very obnoxious SUU fans. Especially this last years football game. All the SUU fans by me had cowbells. Yeah... This isn't Mississippi State, it freakin SUU from Cedar City... Speaking of football, has SUU built a visitor locker room in the stadium yet? I remember Carl Arky used to talk about how during half time they had to take a shuttle a half mile away from the stadium for their "locker room." What the hell?

And, it also really pisses me off how they have beaten us in football and basketball! Football was a massacre last year, but in b-ball they beat us as well last year and this game was way too close. Our talent level far exceeds them and we should blow them out of the water every time we play in bball.

I was exaggerating when I said the whole country. I have only really dealt with fan bases of in state and big sky conference teams... But if I were honestly to rank what I personally think are the most annoying fanbases, this would be my list:

1. Utah - They are the worst by far. So high and mighty. I can't stand all the bandwagoners as well.
2. Southern Utah - Some of the reasons mentioned above, plus they just really rub me the wrong way.
3. Montana - Mostly because they have beaten us at some very crucial points during the last five years. Also, their fans seem uber intense. Maybe it's just the few that travel down to Ogden, but holy cow, calm down.

Other than that I don't really dislike other fan bases. I don't mind USU. I'm glad they play us. Easily one of my favorite games each year. And I don't really mind BYU either, however I will say, BYU fans are a different breed. They seem to think the sports universe revolves around BYU. I've met many "BYU fans" who I don't think are really "sports fans" if that makes sense. Kind of strange, but not that annoying...
