SUU Game

It was an ugly ugly UGLY win, but a win is a win, we all new it was going to be like this, it is a rivalry game after all.

Im glad we hit most of our free throws tonight, since that was all we had for like the last 3 minutes, but we are still missing way too many of them.

Good win, now a three day rest before taking on our other rival on Monday.

GO WEBER

big win for us, tough instate game. love seeing these kind of games. we really need a rivalry like this! on paper we should have won by 20 im sure.

Looking at the stats, I notice something very interesting.
No one fouled out for Weber although Tresnak, Berry, Bolomboy & Williams each had 4.
SUU had three players who fouled out: A. J. Hess, Jordan Johnson & Chris Nsenki.
Nsenki & Johnson each played 15 minutes & Hess played 7 minutes. . . Not many minutes for fouling out!
None of the three scored any points -- or even attempted any FGs or FTs.
Nesnki had 1 assist, the other two -- none.
Johnson had 1 rebound, the other two none.
None of the three had any steals or blocked shots.
Johnson did have a TO.

With stats like those, you have to wonder, What are their roles???

Hatchet men???
:dunce:

I think that everyone in the BSC is going to get that treatment from SUU. I can't wait to see the fist fights, that will come, and we know they will, when SUU plays the Montana schools. I don't think they have played EW or PSU yet either. Someone is going to get decked. I just hope it's the coach. He's the one telling them to do it.

If a player is the one to get decked, they should take it in their own hands and deck their coach at the next practice.

Not hatchet men per se. Designated foulers. Starting with about 4 minutes to go, SUU started fouling Weber right away every possession in hopes that Weber would miss its foul shots and allow SUU back into the game. SUU used the same strategy against Sac St. I guess their coach figures asking his team to play tough D and make some stops is unrealistic. Just foul and hope for the miss. I can't imagine that this style of play is going to win many fans - especially when the last 4 mintues of game time take a half hour.

Agreed, seemed like the last 3 minutes took longer than the first 17.

Also a note for the camera operators at SUU: When a player is shooting a free throw and you have both the shooter and basket in the view, don't cut to the baseline camera before the ball goes through. Maybe he knew Scott was going to make it, but had it missed, the action would have been totally missed.

On to Pocatato!

It's not just the last four minutes. They are coached to grab, hold, push, and hack, all game long. Maybe the refs need to just call it all, and send teams to the line 70 times before SUU decides that it is not the way basketball is supposed to be played. I'm sure that the refs get tired of blowing their whistle or trying to make it even by calling ticky tack stuff on the other end. Just foul their starters out in the first half, like they deserve, and maybe, just maybe, it will change.

It's got to be a great recruiting tool for Robinson. "Come to SUU. We will make you into a hack. You will love it."

Great road win! Congrats to the Cats. Glad we had a decent night at the free throw line...
That was an UGLY game though and not very enjoyable to watch from a fan standpoint. I agree with oldrunner, that is not how basketball is supposed to be played. The constant fouling with four minutes left was ridiculous... They were down at that point by almost 15 points. If the game is close and you're in the last minute or two that is a different story but down by 15 with 4 minutes to play... I say, play straight up! If you can't make a few stops and get your team back in the game, as long as you tried your hardest, you give the other team credit as the better team on that night.

SUU doesn't have the talent, depth, or speed as Weber, and not that I agree with Robinsons tactics but he had to have a game plan. His game plan was to beat Weber the only way possible try to be tougher. It was an ugly and dirty game, that was the only way the T-Birds could beat the Cats. Also, it was a rivalry game. Last night reminded me of some games against ISU from the past. Gotta admit, from what I could see, SUU did a great job getting students out to the game. The Centrum was rocking was night. Weber needs some serious help. Our student section is absolutely ridiculous!!

I noticed that too, SUU's students put ours to shame.

Rockin house yesterday at the Centrum, close to 4,000 in attendance. Kudos to SUU. I have a feeling I'm gonna like this rivalry.

rahe has always prided himself on having tough teams. you can't beat us by pushing us around. you can't even make it in rahe's system if you can be pushed around. also, suu's style i think is a good idea but it does not work in big sky. big sky refs always call every ticky tack foul so playing rough works in other conferences. i wish it did in our conf, but sadly our refs call it like 1960s basketball which i dont like.

will suu be the detroit/new york of the 80s/90s?

I actually don't mind SUU's style of play. I thought they were very physical, but not really dirty. I like seeing players get after it a little. SUU very well could end up 3rd the the conference. They are pretty solid. Im glad we don't have to go back down to Ceder City anymore this season. Its going to be tough for any other team to win down there. Im predicting SUU beats Montana in Ceder City. Stevenette is a very good player. He will be 1st team all conference. I wonder why Weber State didn't recruit him. No biggie, but he is a very good player. I loved seeing Bolomboy be aggressive. If I'm other coaches in the Big Sky I'm pooping my pants knowing I have to go against him for the next 3 years. ha ha. We didn't shoot the ball well, but SUU was playing so tough on D. This was a good game for us. It will make us tougher. Now on to Potaoeville. Weber State Weber State GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!

I'm not sure that he would have been a contributor on our teams over the last 4 years. Who would he take time from, Lillard, Bam, Bull, Berry, Mook, J Rich, etc. I think he went to the right place, for him. :twocents:

If last night was any indication of whether or not this is a rivalry game or not, there where 4 tech fouls, how often does that happen?

It's gonna be fun to hate SUU

i hope so bad this becomes the norm. the only thing missing is we need trash talkers from suu on here!!! i dont really like the smack talk in general but it would be nice to see an online presence of some of the faithful suu fans.

They just got their first phone line, to replace the telegraph, in down there. They won't have PCs or internet for a while yet. They are gonna have to send us a post card.
