Taiwan Jones

Final regular season numbers for TJ:

Rushing: 176-1344/11
Receiving: 21-324/3
Kick return: 13-255

No doubt he would have been a 1500 yard rusher if he hadn't missed the WSU game and half of the MSU and NAU games. Also didn't even play in the second half of the PSY and ISU games. Still, strong enough numbers for some serious Payton consideration.

Funny thing about Taiwan's highlight reels is that they really don't show what he is all about. You almost have to see it in person or live to believe it. I'm sure there have been a lot of frustrated Defensive Coach's left scratching thier heads after watching him tear up their defenses.

The funny thing about Taiwan is that he never runs for middle distance, say 5-10 yard gains. He only runs for 25 yards + or -5 yards. He'll having rushing stats like 20 carries for 200 yards and 3 TDS... reading between the lines, he had 3 TDs carries of 55, 65, and 75 yards, and had 5 rushes for no gain, and 5 rushes for -5 yards. The rest went around the end for 10-15.

Taiwan not only leads the Big Sky for most big plays, but he also leads for most tackled for losses.

Yes, he does get tackled in the backfield a fair amount when on runs up the middle or starts dancing, trying to juke defenders and create holes. But more often than not, I see him pick 5-10 yards with outside runs that he cuts back inside, with the occasional big play if he gets all the way to the outside. I'd have to go through each game (and I probably will because I'm interested to see how his runs actually break down), but I'd say on average he gets 40-50% of his yardage on one or two big plays, another 30-40% on 5-10 yard runs, and the rest on short gains or 10-25 yarders.

Another solid game for TJ.

25/168/2/6.7

NDSU's front 7 look to be big and physical, they will no doubt be a bigger test for TJ and the entire offense this weekend.

For those that didn't know, TJ finished 4th in votes for the Payton this year. Very good showing, considering the injury earlier in the year. He has a great shot to win this thing next year.
