Terrible decision making on the last drives

Geez, on first down Mitchell was all alone at the line of scrimmage and wouldn't take off upfield. He had at least a 10 yard gain, maybe a lot more. Instead he chucks it 20 feet over Kaufman's head. Two plays later he scrambles upfield but dives two yards short of the first down under no real threat. Then he chucks the ball over the head of an open receiver on 4th down.

You make that first down, you might win the game. At the very least, you are in FG position to tie.

Very disappointing. The effort was better from certain players, but bad decision making, a lot of bad throws, and an opponent that knows how to control the ball make for a(nother) bad result.

We aren't a hard luck team, we're a team that has made it's own bad luck. And FWIW, the lack of toughness on OL and DL guys flopping around like fish out of water was upsetting. This is our big rivialry game of the year... show some heart already!

0-3, next up a team that just played a smartly scheduled game at home vs. Minot State (someone tell Chaves THAT is how you schedule before a big road game... I don't think he understands yet). This is is o-v-e-r and we haven't even played a home game yet.

I completely agree. Check my post in the EWU vs Griz thread.

EDIT: All is NOT lost. I agree with everything else, Dopa.

Dopa, I agree with you a lot of the time, but I don't think it's over quite yet. Last year was "our" year, maybe this season not so much, but we're not done yet. Get some O-Lineman healthy, and we will win some games in the Big Sky. Sometimes I think people forget the 2006 season already.

Hmm I dunno. We might not even make it to .500. I think we might actually be that bad right now. Stuck in a tailspin since the UW game.

I feel where you're coming from, but I still refuse to give in. If BLM plays great the rest of season, we may just be alright.

We're gonna need to be 4 TDs better to have any shot at running the table this year. I didn't think Montana was very good... they don't seem to be any better than last year. Even with as bad as we played, we still had a chance... but everytime we had an opportunity to tie or take the lead, we came out with our worst drives of the game.

However, maybe moving back to Roos will help. I'm still not sure why it took until week #4 to at least try a home game to see if it could change our luck...

If you're telling me this team in any shape or form resembles 2006, you aren't paying attention. Now, that team had no excuse for only being 3-8, but the team we have now was a consensus #1 ranked team. We nearly knocked off a good BCS team in our opener. Since then, it has just been appalling to watch us get worse.

We won't win any games until we find the same intensity we brought to (and seem to have left in) Seattle. A fresh Montana State team is licking their chops right now seeing us flail on the road.

And while we're at it, once again, shame on the Admin for giving us this bullshit schedule. Defending National Champions don't schedule like this... give yourself a chance to be successful. The team's play got us to 0-3, but our Admin created this problem in the first place. Had we played Minot State or similar last week, I firmly believe we are a 2-1 team.

Out of all the shit this year(and there has been plenty), this is the most disappointing aspect. You bumped your leg? Tough shit. You broke a finger? Tough shit. Tape it up, walk it off, and get your ass back in there. If somebody blows out a knee or otherwise is seriously injured, the I get it. But a rolled ankle, in my book, isn't serious enough to roll around on the ground like you're dying. Come off and get it taped up (immobilized if necessary) and get back in there! I almost threw up when we were so soft that we couldn't punch it in with 1st and goal there at the end of the 1st half. That's not Eagle football, and it's unacceptable. I know AB is absolutely pissed at that right now.

I'm not fair weather at all, and I'll be on the edge of my seat next weekend and each weekend thereafter, but DAMMIT, this team needs to do some soul searching and learn how to compete. NEWSFLASH GUYS! Get tough, or get out of the way for someone who will.

We are 0-3. We didn't even lose 3 games all last year. But we are still in this. We need to stop sulking about a should have been victory in Seattle. Stop sulking about the overlooked South Dakota, and focus on what making the playoffs is all about, the Big Sky. We are now in a hole where we must come out and win every game. Although some people may believe our season is over, I think our season will end or continue in Cheney on the undefeated Inferno. It sucks to be in such a horrible position, but this is where we show everyone we belong to go back to Frisco. We need to stop focusing on repeating the National Championship and look at every game on a week to week basis. We won 13 games in a row last year, almost defeated the best washington state college football team, and lost to our biggest rivals in a close game, IN THEIR HOME. Lets cut the bullshit, regroup, and bring fire to this hurt Eagles team. Lets beat MSU and show everyone we mean business and that this EWU team is still here to win.

Despite the rushing yards, defense played great. They shut out the griz for two of the quarters including their final 5 possessions giving us a chance to get back in the game in the 2nd quarter and a chance to win it in the end.

Jordan Tally. :notworthy:

This loss hurts less than USD. The Griz are a playoff caliber team and quite possibly a seed.

We have a good enough defense to make another run. Starts with the cats.

Can someone in the know give a run-down on the injury situation in general and the O-line in particular. Right now I count only 4 scholarship players that are healthy there.

Broken fibula (ankle) is not "sum'thing you tape up" and jog back out there ... why don't people wait until they know the injury before they start passing judgment? As for not punching it in on the goal line ... I was there, on the goal line, and there's a reason there was no replay on the big screen of the 3rd down play ... enough said cause I'm not going to be one of those people that says the refs were the reason blah blah blah. But I swear I think Big Sky officials are intimidated by the crowd in WAGS (Is there any other reason for some of the inexplicable calls over the years?)

On tv it looked like you were in too

There were at least 7 guys that laid down after plays... are you telling me we had 7 guys with broken ankles? The point our old line buddy was making is that if you're hurt, then you're hurt. Injuries happen. But stop the whining over little dings and stay in the game. That's a toughness issue.

I agree, we should've been given the TD on the 3rd down play, but the refs didn't kill our chances.

You could point to about 10 previous Eagle teams who went into Wa-Griz and played their asses off only to lose on a bad call or to a great Griz team that would've given their left nut to play in that game against a sub-par Griz team that giftwrapped us the game. There is no excuse for playing that flat, especially scoring one TD with all the talent we have on offense. We let another get away.

Reading comprehension will help. I never said anything about playing through a broken fibula. I was speaking to what Dopa alluded to, which was guys spending too much time on the ground for non-serious injuries. Talk to me when you've popped a dislocated finger or three back into place while between plays.

As for the refs, we always know that going into WaGrz we are basically spotting them 10 pts due to bad calls, so it's not exactly something new. That being said, it's not an issue if we blast their DL off the line and make the touchdown a sure thing.

The good news is, the sky isn't falling and this team is more than capable of picking itself up and protecting the Inferno next week. Unfortunately, with the UM loss, we must find a sense of urgency IMMEDIATELY.

I to was there, yup they punched it in the endzone on the 2nd and 3rd down play, home field advantage I guess, get that td and maybe there is a different ending ! As far as playing hurt, the WHOLE O-line is hurt, playing with a kid that wasnt even on the travel squad a week ago and a d lineman back to o lineman that was 3rd on the depthchart ! that being said there were good holes to run through and yards made by a true freshman running back ! Can you tell me when the last time you saw 3!!!! illegal substituions in 1 game ? The coaches were way outta sync with the D. Players running in and out, not being set for the next play waiting for a call from the sidelines I dont think I have EVER seen a team that outta sync ! and yet we STILL shut them down the second half. Now for the Offense, BLM is NOT on ther same page with the receivers, so many open that it had me hoarse before halftime, terrible communication between he and Kaufman, sometimes it looked like they didnt have a clue ! Yes there were many times Mitchell had 10 15 yrds to scramble only to hesitate and throw the ball instead of taking the good gain and then miss by such a large amount it made you think he had no clue where he was throwing it. This team has chosen to live off of BLM's arm and for what ever reason he has NOT been the same QB that played against the UW. That being said its playoff time next Sat. and we better come out with a fire thats seems to have been missing in these past 2 games, win and we get to play at home again, lose and it becomes a mute point !! We need to be there for these guys and get the red rocking, it would be the shits to only play a spoilers role after Saturday !!! GOEAGS !

I think my reading comp is just fine ... my point was that in the case of at least one of the OL, it wasn't just a rolled ankle but a broken ankle. And not that it's relevant to this conversation but I don't think you want to trade toughness stories with me ... I'm a 90% disabled vet (with every bit that goes with it), spent 21 years in the Army and gave birth, so no dislocated finger stories are really going to impress me! :coffee:

We are in total agreement that the sky is not falling and believe me, I hope like you that the team finds a sense of urgency. We, the fans, on the other hand, find everything to be either most trying or exhilarating. It's the thing fans do best.

Oh snap!

I hope it is impressed on the team the the sky IS falling. I thought we played better on defense yesterday, but our offense was still largely listless. The line play improved; Talley looks like he might be a good long term option at RB; but my God, the receivers and QB just showed less than nothing. We missed wide open guys all game long and never took what was given.

We need to play every game like it is a playoff game and a loss ends the season. Of course, we should've been playing like that in week #2 instead of having to do it in week #4. The scary thing is to worry that the kids might have already written this season off as a failure and not show up. I hope it doesn't happen, but we're 0-3.

I don't think we've opened a season 0-4 since 1983... our first year as a D-I program. We won out after five straight losses that season. To think a defending national champion and consensus preseason #1 team could conceivably start the season worse than any Eagle team in 28 years in utterly shocking.

I think the team played their heart's out. This is the same team as last year with the exception of TJ and we are feeling his loss. Last year, we were barely winning and these past 3 games we are barely losing. Pointing fingers at players isn't the answer because those players haven't changed. I am confident that the coaches and players will figure this out and hopefully sooner than later.
