Tevin McDonald visiting from UCLA

Again, with BLM , Padron, and Bronson, none of them violated any rules, nor were kicked off of their teams. I understand there are high risk kids getting a chance at this level..it just shouldn't be because they have totally blown their chance someplace else because of their stupid actions. Sorry, I just don't see this teaching anyone anything except that you can cheat the system until you get caught 3 times, and then still keep going.

But Pulu was...should he not have been given a second chance at Eastern? From what I have heard the kid has a great work ethic and is evolving into a team leader. And I don't think anyone can deny the impact he had on the defensive line this past season.

But I do understand your point and agree in a sense. I also think that unless it's something really agregious then a kid deserves a second chance. I don't think smoking pot is something that fits in the category of a serious crime. If he wasn't playing for us he'd be lining up against us at Sac State, Cal Poly, or MSU. It's ok to disagree with the rules but they are what they are.

I also think that the first time the Coaching staff catches him out of line, he should be gone. If you're not willing to take advantage of an opportunity, you shouldn't be given any more chances.
 
For all you weekly posters,if you think this is the only guy catching a buzz on the football team you 've got your head up your A##. He just got caught, 3 times, maybe not the sharpest knife in the drawer but a fact of college life ! Lack of discipline ? absolutely, selfish ? probably, can he help the team ? no doubt about it, is he a diva ? time will tell, history does repeat itself , if he is a bad seed it will show, sooner than later ! Lets hope Baldwin and company are not looking for the quick fix ! I trust they are not ! GO EAGS !

Agree. Sure, sometimes transfers burn you. But it looks like this kid has an opportunity to really help us out in an area where we are weak... defense; most specifically, tackling. I simply cannot see how this is bad, and frankly, I'm surprised to see some people have an attitude that getting this kid is a bad get. Having a transfer that can play up right away is no different than finding a new freshman that can come in and play... no one has a guarantee of being a starter.

I, for one, am jacked that we have this kid. He has legit NFL potential... and that alone makes him a game-changing player at this level. Would you rather have him on the team, or play against him? I see this as a big win for the program. Plus, Eastern has a history of taking kids with question marks and not only succeeding with them on the field, but getting them graduated.
 
I'm all for giving the kid a chance. Baldwin is a stand up guy and wouldn't take a chance if he didn't think the kid was a good kid.

Its a win/win for EWU, we really aren't taking on a lot of risk. We gain a kid with a ton of talent that can help us right away. If he doesn't succeed, and can't stay away from the "Green" it will be more on the kid than EWU as he has a history with it.

He is a great talent and I'm happy to have him at EWU.

I see it in every post..this KID yes he is a kid and he should get another chance. Its up to him to succeed and up to the coaches and communtiy to hold him accountable. Lets face it this isnt UCLA its Cheney. Eagle footbal is on a rise to the top. We need to grow as fans and expect more kids to choose EWU. Welcome them with open arms and let them know its a small pond, you are in the spotlight.

I agree it's important to reward guys who work hard, keep there nose clean and are dedicated to EWU. But when it comes down to it, the football team exists to win. If we can find a guy like McDonald with a mildly checkered past that can help the team win, by all means, welcome to Cheney. I don't think we are anywhere near becoming "Drop-Down U." I'd also posit that 51% of Terry Mixon's problem was an inability to perform on the field (i think he was mentioned somewhere up-thread.)

Also, if players using marijuana signals some sort of moral bankruptcy at EWU or any other school, I have some bad news for you...

With Douchebag McRapist coming back to the Griz, getting Tevin is an even bigger get. Eastern has sooooooooooo mcuh trouble with read-option teams that getting a seriously legit tackler means a huge deal. Getting a hat on the outside runner from the weakside is the job of the safety, and it's a job that hasn't been done very well in a long time against UM (remember Minnerly got hurt early last season). This guy looks like he is capable of the job.

No doubt about his capabilities, only concern about his commitment to staying clean.
With Tevin and Jordan Tonani at safety we will be in good shape.

I think you'll see both Brown and Tonani playing a lot, whether they start or not. I think Tonani might be used in nickel packages, whereas Brown might be more of a play-to-play guy---- especially against run-heavy teams. I could be wrong in my perception, but I think Tonani's strengths are in coverage and Brown is stronger at flying up to the line to make tackles.
