Does anyone know of the BSC us looking strong this year un recruiting? What teams have signed? Who is looking like the best recruiting class?
As for other Big Sky schools...
ISU: had one guy sign in the early signing period, but nothing else so far. They have 7 scholarships to give. I wouldn't doubt seeing the Bengals load up on JCs. They did RS one, maybe two, last year.
NAU: They only had two spots to fill. They are going to be a lot better next year. As for signings they got a JC kid. Looks like he will contribute for the Jacks.
UNC: They had a bunch of RS this year and signed two good guards. I think Boyle is really hoping that one of the two incoming guards can handle some of the scoring being lost by Figures departure. With the RS and these two guards the Bears ended up with an okay class. Garnica can hit shots from anywhere on the floor. That kid has got some mad range.
Eastern: After doubting Earlywine last year, I really did my homework on his recruits this year. Jaylen Henry is going to be a really good pickup for the Eagles but the rest might need some time to develop, especially Carter Warnock. But I think he will be decent in the years to come. All in all, Eastern had a good class.
PSU: PSU RS a couple of their guys last year and have a really good big coming to Portland. Now he is big and tall, but can he play? I think Greving is really trying to do what Bone did when he first took over the team. Get some really good post players and hopefully get a decent guard with potential who can take some pressure off of the Bigs. Kinda like a Morrison/Dominguez setup. That was the scenario that got Bone into the Big Conferences. Good class with Catalado and the RS who is also 6-10...TWO...
MSU: The Bobcats had a lot of scholarships to fill and I think they have done a great job. Tre Johnson and Jordan Salley are both going to be great players for the Bobcats. Still the Cats don't have a great center. I think Huse is trying to do the PSU thing of the last couple years. Have four guards on the floor with a quick PF. He does have a 7-0 kid in Swita, RS last seson, but can he play? This year he signed four players at 6-6 to 6-8, while all the other Big Sky teams will have a couple 6-9+ kids on the team. However, he has a really athletic group of guys. He also signed three guards to replace those he lost. One, I think, is a JC. As for that, he has a good mix of JC's and High schoolers coming in.
UM: We all know the Grizz got two Solid recruits in Vaughn Autry and Kareem Jamar. Both are going to be really good players, as long as Tinkle and Co doesn't screw them up. As for the other guys...I'm not so sure. Reader has the look to be good, but really didn't play against tough competition as a 6-9 guy. I think he will turnout, but nothing like the Grizz faithful think he will. As for the other three. Solid contributors each of them, two JCs, one a local kid Jordan Wood and another JC from Casper Wyoming. But with Selvig, Quavle, and Cherry, UM is going to be okay no matter who they got, and they got two proven GEMS. Not only two great player, but at the positions they needed. If Reader or Hutchinson happen to be as good as some up North are hoping and spouting them to be, UM is going to be really talented for the next four or five years. As for their last recruit...Weisner...he'll be a good wing/PF for the Grizz. Kinda like Bullinger, but not as good as a shooter and not as tough, but a good baller.
SAC: Hmmmm...Always a mystery. Katz's strategy is a couple high schoolers a year, and fill in the holes with leftover JCs. Players can see that Katz has righted the sinking ship that was Hornet basketball and are starting to take notice. Two years ago, Katz could never have gotten the kids he is now starting to get, but now that the ship is righted, can he get the ship moving forward before it starts sinking again? I think yes, and I think this class along with last years and his RS are going to get the Hornets close to conference tournament contention. The class is decent at best, but Katz is an excellent coach that gets the most from his players.
