The bigger egg?

I know there's not much profit in such a discussion, but I was wondering your opinion at who laid the bigger egg this week: the Sac defense or the entire ISU team?

With our offensive explosion (of sorts) this week, even an average defensive effort, we should have won. ISU, however, was apparently COMPLETELY manhandled by a D-II school.

Definitely ISU, there's no excuse at losing to a DII program, even one as good as that. One BSC program putting up 50 against another isnt uncommon, however, losing to a DII program is.

ISU is in more trouble than we are. They had to take a game with the Sooners for money to literally save the team from being cut out and disbanded by the school. If we don't write our ship fast, we could be heading in the same direction.

"Bodybag games" are not a panacea when it comes to "saving a program." UOP's '95 schedule is a prime example. Fresneck, Arizona, Nebraska, Oregon, and Oregon State (albeit in Stockton and a UOP win) all in one year STILL resulted in a "suspension" that still exists with no hope in sight of being overturned.

Super: I know all that. ISU had to had to rearrange their schedule to play the Sooners for this purpose. Not to just pad the program with money but to SAVE it from being eliminated. UOP had school and NCAA violations and the Pres of that Univ at the time was anti sports.

I know UOP had accreditation issues and an anti-sports prez (fortunately he's now GONE). But what were the NCAA violations? I never heard of that.

Sorry Super, I stand corrected. They were NCAA acquistations and the Pres of the school pulled the plug before it went any further.

You might be right, however the way we are playing I'm not sure we would beat Central Washington either.

I thought this was a Sac State blog? Why all the uop BS? And Sac State needs ISU to stay alive; they might be our only conference wins if things don't turn around soon. Also our defense sucked it up, but we were not favored to win the EWU game anyways. I'm in no way defending the way the Hornets played, but EWU has one of the best offenses in the FCS, they were going to put up points.

And I'm glad we wont have the chance to find out, I'd like to think that the Hornets would spank CWU. :P

Hornetluver, you are absolutely full of crap. Your claim that they took this game or the program would be disbanded is BS. They only cut their budget for football this year at ISU by .07% or $51,000 out of over $7,950,000. Boise State made much bigger cuts as a percentage of their total budget - nearly 3%.

How do I know this. Well try reading the Idaho Statesman. What is your source for your "doom and gloom" BS comment. So far I find anything you write on this board to lack credibility.

http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cach...tate+football+budget&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

"• Idaho State: The Bengals expect to cut their budget by $51,765, or 0.7 percent, to $7.95 million. The school will save $13,000 by dumping printed media guides. Other cost-cutting measures include replacing a full-time coach with a graduate assistant in men’s and women’s basketball and not putting the football team in a hotel the night before home games.

Oh and if that doesn't convince you, this from the ISU athetlic website about what a great job the the new AD Jeff Tingey has done with the athletic department budget.

http://isubengals.cstv.com/genrel/062409aab.html

"Tingey's management has transformed Athletics' alarming budget performance, erasing an $800,000 deficit with a $1.6 million swing that placed $364,000 in a reserve account and trending toward an additional $121,000 by the end of the year. He raised over $613,000 in corporate sponsorships, nearly $736,000 in gifts-in kind trades, and $1.2 million in game guarantees."
