The Class of the Big Sky?

Has Weber given up the title of Class of the Big Sky to Montana? If you look at Big Sky titles and NCAA tournament appearances over the last 6 years, it's hard to say. If you take into account just the last three years, the title has to go to Montana. Last night it was clear that Montana's five starters were much better than ours, and with Cherry, Mathias, and Jamar coming back next year, their starting five will probably be better than ours again. We have more depth and our guys are classy and "better off the court than on it" but as Montana has proven the last three years, that doesn't always lead to championships. And I hate to say it, but their coaching over the last 3 years has been better than Weber's... but just by a little bit.

If we are to compete in the future we need to recruit more athletes and continue to develop depth, oh and avoid those gosh darn injuries!

I like how our team is looking for the future, but currently not convinced we will be the best Big Sky team next year. With our returning guards and Tres coming back, If Mook and James come back healthy and Berry is as good as we all think, then i'd say we have a chance. Again we will be deeper than Montana, but not sure we will have a player in the same league as either Cherry or Jamar.....Well, that is of course unless Lillard comes back. Everyone, chant it with me. "One more year! One more year! One more Year!"

For now, I'd say until we can beat out Montana in a big game and go dancing, the title is theirs for now and ours to recapture.

Weber will win the league next year. Mark it down & take it to the bank. We'll dig up this thread in 365 days & bump it. It will be nice to not be favored, but for those who have watched Berry, know where we're going to get some point replacement from.

Injuries changed our season with Bullinger largely ineffective, & Otis & Hajek out.

The writing was on the wall after the loss to ISU.

Making my third post ever here to disagree with the original poster.

You have the best venue, the best crowd support, and the best record in the NCAA tournament.

I usually get really bummed and depressed after Weber loses a game like that, but Im not mad. Weber got beat by a better team. I thought our guys played their best and put it all out on the floor. Thats all we can ask for as fans. Aside from Lillard, Montana has more talent. Next year is going to be the same. Hats off too Montana they deserved it. I hope they do well in the NCAA's. I like our team next year and you never know, but right now Montana is the class of the SKY. Here is my early preseason predictions for next year.

1. Montana
2. Weber State
3. Northern Colorado ( I know nobody will agree with me on this one, but they have lots of talent.)
4. Montana State ( They have some good looking guys coming back. )
5. Eastern Washington ( Might be too high, but they have a good JC redshirting and Chiverton is legit.)
6. Sacramento State ( They are getting better. )
7. Portland State ( I thought about putting them lower, but they might be decent next year. )
8. North Dakota. ( I did watch them play Montana earlier this year, but I was not overly impressed.)
9. Northern Arizona. ( I thought about putting them higher, but new coach. They have some talent though)
10. Southern Utah ( They lose 3 starters and they sucked this year. So I think they will stink. )
11. Idaho State ( YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel bad for the new coach. NEEEEEEEEEEE. )

As far as Weber State goes. If Wheelright can improve from this season and Berry is as good as we hope he is and we avoide injuries, Weber State will be very tough, but Dang Montana with those 3 guys coming back its going to be tough to knock them off.

Hmmm...putting together a 2012-2013 list eh...based on what these teams have now and who they signed in the fall. Quickly done. I put PSU at 10, cause I dislike Geving so much.
1. UM
2. Weber
3. Eastern
4. Sac
5. UND
6. UNCO
7. MSU
8. NAU
9. SUU
10. PSU
11. ISU

Ha ha you stain. Ok that did sound a little off. Montana State has some talented basketball players coming back next year. Happy now!!!! Doosh

OH ya, Montana students are the defenition of NOT the class of anything...

I've seen bengalhater get kicked out of games for a lot less. I can't believe the reffs didn't at least kick them out or issue a technical. that is crazy. Obviously it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, but the refs should have done something more.

Say what you want about the Montana players/fans, but i was there to witness the three Weber players on the end of the bench that continually were telling people in the stands to F**k off. I mean come on, there were young kids sitting there witnessing all of this. I think the worst part about it that no one on the Weber staff put a stop to it. I mean this was happening while the game was going. The Weber bench players weren't even cheering on their own team, they instead decided it was a much better idea to antagonize the the Montana fans that were sitting near them. I guess karma's a bitch that way. Looks to me like the players are just a product of their coach, which doesn't say much about that program. No way did Weber deserve to win that game, which is probably why they didn't.

My grand son and his mates were offended when the Univ of Montana did nothing after 4,000 Griz students chanted "**** You Weber" and "Weber Faggits" to the Weber State fan area in your stadium. No apology. I heard this and was outraged that all the Montana children heard these vulgary chants. I would imagine 4,000 chanting anything would be very loud for all to hear not just a few 9 year olds on row 2.

 :bad:

Is this guy for real? Is he his igorant? We all know there are good and bad fans on both sides and Im sure some Montana players say the F word too just like Weber State players do. I bet even BYU players say the F word!. Im not saying its ok, but its part of sports. And I would be willing to bed the Weber State players yelling back at the fans were because possibly the Montana fans were harrasing them. Im just saying. If the fans shaking the basketball stardard when Lillard was shooting the free thow was an indication at how dumb Montana fans are then I guess this guying being so ignorant makes sense. Never seen anything like that. I don't really believe all Montana fans are dumb or that all Weber State fans are perfect little angles, but come on, to come on this site and preach all that BS is silly. :blah:

zootown, you are new on this Board so will give you a break....BUT,
1. do not cast aspersions on Coach Rahe and his staff for the perceived action that you think took place. There were plenty of F-bombs coming from Griz players on the floor ( already mentioned in another thread) so this knife cuts both ways.
2. I have never witnessed a game where the ref had to stop a section of students from shaking the basket when the opponent is shooting free throws.....really classless. Should have been a technical, but real fans don't resort to chickens**t tactics like that.
3. And, since you want coaches to control their bench, how about Coach Tinkle telling the High School Musical choreographed dance routines by the bench/practice squad players during the game to cool it? I am all for players getting up and cheering on their team-mates, but these kids' antics are so junior high, they reflect on all Big Sky schools as being low brow. You are a college athlete, be a pro and act like it!

Just my thoughts...... :wall:

Stay classy Montana! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR-RQSntePk This video is pretty disturbing, not just that there is some idiot streaker, but also that the rest of the fans are cheering this loser on.
Stay Classy Montana!

Also this typical Montana Grizz family photo is very "classy"

Yes, Montana is currently the class of the BSC in basketball.

Yes, every fanbase has morons and idiots.

Yes, every college basketball player in the country curses.

No, neither team nor fanbase is "better" or "worse" than the other.

There, have I adequately addressed all the questions raised in this thread?

(P.S. Weber got screwed by the NIT)
