Good article from the Flint Journal about coach Robinsons recruiting efforts in that area. Let's hope these kids have great careers in CO.

These guys from Michigan have huge upsides.

We had speculated early that Shane Barron might be coming; can't say enough good things about this player. My personal take - and this is entirely my opinion - is that he was a player that got caught in the simple fact that he was probably the best athlete on his team and his team needed a quarterback.
If he had not changed positions (to QB) as a senior, he would have continued to rack up the stats and been more heavily recruited by Michigan area powerhouses. As it was, he had a very good senior year, but had he been kept at wide receiver (assuming there was a QB on their roster - which there wasn't), who knows what his senior season might have been.

I think all of our Michigan commits look like BIG contributors. But since I've been watching this Barron's recruitment closely, here are just a few quotes about Shane to get the rest of you excited ...

Carman-Ainsworth's Shane Barron attracting interest of national football powers
The next player whose name will be blowing up on recruiting Web sites is Carman-Ainsworth junior Shane Barron.

It seems like he’s been around forever, having scored a 50-yard touchdown on his first varsity touch as a freshman two years ago at Belleville, but signing day for Barron won’t come for another 16 months.

Alabama, Louisiana State and Michigan have all requested film of Barron, Carman-Ainsworth coach Nate Williams said Friday night following an 18-16 loss to Davison.

Williams said Barron has a verbal offer from Central Michigan, but that other Mid-American Conference schools aren’t even wasting their time pursuing a player who is apprently destined for a bigger stage.

Shane Barron from Flint Carman Ainsworth proved that he is one of the top talents in Michigan down in Dallas at the 7on7 National Championship. Shane made some spectacular plays on offense and was a lockdown corner on defense. Barron has low 4.4 speed and has racked up 3 MAC offers to date.

Shane Barron ATH from Flint Carmen-Ainsworth
This kid has been playing varsity ball since he was a freshman in a decent league. He is listed as an athlete. Barron has recieved a lot of early attention from some big time programs, but has only pulled in a CMU offer to this point. I think that is soon to change now that offers are flying out.

Cavaliers have a senior QB Shane Barron who is explosive on his feet ...

Flint Carman-Ainsworth senior Shane Barron gathered 337 rushing yards on 23 carries in the Cavs' 43-20 win over Flushing on Friday night. His performance broke the school-record set by Terrance Robinson in 2000 and fell just two yards shy of the Big Nine record set by Chris Bartlett from Swartz Creek in 1984.

Shane Barron
FLINT, Mich. — At least once a game it seems as though Flint Carman-Ainsworth’s senior quarterback Shane Barron will complete a play worthy of a highlight reel.

Barron’s final prep campaign has fell nothing short of spectacular.

Against Flushing on Sept. 30, he officially left his mark within the program after rushing for a school-best 337 rushing yards.

A starter on Carman-Ainsworth's varsity football team since the first game of his freshman year. Barron rushed for a school-record 337 yards against Flushing in 2011, finishing the season with 1,367 yards and 16 touchdowns on 164 carries. He threw for four touchdowns, going 25-for-73 for 335 yards. He caught two passes for 78 yards and a score. Defensively, he had 35 tackles, two interceptions and five deflections. He picked off two passes. Barron accounted for 1,802 all-purpose yards. Switched from wide receiver to quarterback for his senior year.

It's pretty hard to get a conversation going around here! tough crowd ....

how about:
yeah, his tape looks awesome! Welcome to the Bears, all you new Michigan players!

I'll tell you what I am excited about Mr. Faster, this stacked group of lbs:

MARCUS FORWARD II - Rivals ** Offers from a couple of MAC schools
LEILON WILLINGHAM – Rivals **** Offers to Michigan and Oregon last year
LAVELL SANDERS – Rivals *** Offers to CU and ASU
DOMINICK SIERRA - Rivals ** Signed LOI with Hawaii 2 yrs ago
AUSTIN (A.J.) ISENBERG – Colorado 4a defensive player of the year

Add in Bumpas, Friend, etc and it is a solid group of talent. Hopefully a couple can move to DE, because I don't know what we are going to do with them all.

I would like to see some of these guys redshirt. Collins doesn't like to redshirt unless he has to (cheaper for the program) Most coaches are opposite, they won't play unless they have to.

No kidding. These are GOOD players. If we can have a conversation about which group of players we are MORE excited about, obviously, this is a class that shows a lot of promise. If you had told me a year ago that Leilon Willingham would be playing for the Northern Colorado Bears, I'd have asked what you were drinking. His path to get here may have been circuituous, but he is a player.

From his high school signing story, Feb. 2011:
Willingham, who plays outside linebacker, finished with a team-leading 156 tackles last season, as well as five sacks, three fumble recoveries and an interception. He is the second-ranked prospect in The Post's recruiting rankings for 2011.

Willingham picked the Knights (University of Central Florida) over offers from at least 12 other schools, including finalists Colorado, Arizona State, Michigan and Washington.

The question now is where to put the "athletes" like Barron and that kid from Wiggens? Receiver? DB?

Will be interesting to see if Sean Rubalcaba overtakes Seth Lobato at QB or not. Barron and Tayler Risner (from Wiggins) have played quarterback but both are athletic and can contribute elsewhere. I'm getting excited to see how all these pieces fit together.

Maybe in a couple seasons, but i hope they redshirt Rubalcaba, and most of these guys.

I think redshirting these kids right now would be a wasteful. In my opinion, you go 0-11, everyones spot is up for grabs. You need to put the best out there, whether they are true freshman or not. I think you should only redshirt if the kid is absolutely not ready. I can see most of these JC guys stepping in right away, as for the other kids, you never know what they are going to be like in fall camp.

I don't think Rubalcaba will take over the starting spot, but I he might make a push for it, but he could make a spot on the depth chart though with only 4 QBs on the team right now. Unless they sign another over the summer.

Not that anybody asked, but I am in total agreement bears fan.
Put the most effective players on the field......win out lose, let out all out.
At the same time, use this summer and pre season to make those determinations and have a plan. Lets not lose sight of the vision, hopefully we have a vision thats how programs are rebuilt
