The Game that could have changed everything:

was Weber State. I'm still upset at that one. It was the 2nd game of the season and we could have proven to everyone how much we improved and that we could win close games. Weber was quit literally giving us that game with 6 turnovers and we still couldn't get it done. Also, I will never forgive Downing for not trying to win the game with a minute left in regulation. I could understand if we were struggling to move the ball, but we had no problem doing that all game. Orms was on fire that game. Instead, Downing didn't go for the win. That's what sucks.
That game could have set the tone for the rest of the season and we blew it. I think it would have been a different season, especially with parody in the league. That's the game folks that could have changed everything and might have saved Downing's job. Anyone else agree?

To me it was the Montana game. They still had a shot at a good season and were facing a Montana team that was, for once, beatable. Then they just got battered and proved they had no fight.

I would agree the Weber State game was the real killer in my mind. We had a great chance to win a road game against a quality opponent. We had several chances to win it and found a way to lose each time. The decision with about a minute left to play for overtime instead of going for a win was bad.The team had just gotten a turnover and new life and we decide to play for overtime was poor but just shows to the team the not serious about turning things around. I remember fake punts in National Championship games now replaced by punting inside the 40 yard line in 4th quarter and only 7 points down twice. The Montana was real debacle as we were never ready to compete in that game as well as Sac State. I believe had we won at Weber we would have more of a reason to be up for Montana and Sac State but no we just returned to our losing ways ...... but we will never know.
Only 2 wins again this season and one against a D2team another sad season for a once top notch program. When I see the scoreboard at Nottingham and see the 96-97 National Champions it seems like ancient history and, see teams that we used to beat regularly having success at the FCS level I wonder how long before we have a commitment to being a winning program again.
