The good, the bad and the ugly

First the good... I loved the drumming...the defense was improved. Davis scored on a couple of beautiful passes with the receiver catching the ball on the finger tips on the dead run (unstoppable), otherwise we win...the kicking game is good...there were a lot off open Viking receivers.

The bad...the O-line (fixable? Probably not)...White's timing. Brian threw way too late for open receivers running deep patterns even when the O-line gave him time. (Fixable? Probably!)

The ugly... Linebacker tossed for punch to the helmet...Losing!

The LB that was tossed was JB Nichols. He was origially recruited to play DE and was a highly touted recruit form Oakland, CA. Over the years he has been defiant with coaches and often complained about getting the shaft rather than gritting his teeth and working to get better. Now he is a senior and has been moved to LB but is playing mostly on Special Team. Im sure he does not like that situation one bit, his frusteration obviously showed on the field, throwing punches during a game is STUPID, it hurts yourself and the team.

I don't believe the Oline is Fixable either, the only two guys getting it done are Brennan and Heerspink to a certain extent. I like Feakin and he's a nice guy but He needed St. John next to him this season. Two games in a row the DE to his side has eaten him alive. Also the fact that the guards are both weak is not helping the tackles. They could not pick up a twist to save their life.

First half was exciting but the second half turned out to be entertaining for all the wrong reasons. When Coach Glanville said you're really gonna love this he probably had something else in mind besides 50 yard field goal attempts, White dancing spinning and running for his life and five tries from the 1 yard line shut down. From where I sat a couple times it looked like the PSU player with the ball was tossed back like a sack of groceries.

There was an article before the McNeese State game about: is the team ready (?) and Couch Glanville said he's waiting for Mouse to smile. Now I understand why the long face.

I think at some point the Vikings are going to get the ball rolling with this new offense and defense. Obviously it's a work in progress with nowhere to go but up. Maybe we'll lull some team into being so overconfident when we play them that we can sneak up and steal a win.
Beg Borrow Steal I don't care let's get a win.
Go Viks!

Oops sorry about that Coach

At this point I see a winning season as a success. A loss this saturday and the playoffs are over. Not from a mathmatical standpoint, but a team that loses 2 in a row at home is not good enough to go to Missoula and win. I thiink the at large bid is pretty much gone at this point. So they must win conference, a loss to Sac State would make it impossible to win the Big Sky with teams like NAU, Montana, and MSU still on the schedule.

Whats my point, from this point any loss(with the exception of SDSU) ends playoff hopes for the Viks. If you lose to Montana and you win out (and lose to SDSU) you are 7-4 which has not been good enough to get PSU an at large bid in the past.

But like I said in the beginning, A winning season at this point, from what weve seen in the first two games, would be enough to get me excited about next season.

I'll take winning too. I'd like to win the rest of the home games too. Have to bring back the excitement. Whether or not I like the fairweather fans, they are vital to the long term existence of the program.

I like to talk about the good. Mackins had a good game against Davis and should be much improved in his second game under the system. Kirkland will learn from the tapes and should be able to bring his A-game to the Park on Saturday. White is talented and has a huge upside. The changes in the O-line look good on paper.

If the drummers play after every Viking score, they will be worn out by half time.

Well, we are officially the worst team in sacks allowed in Division 1 football.

PSU: total 25 , avg 8.33 per game
Notre Dame: total 23 , avg 7.67 per game

Very dubious.

As always, I'm looking for improvement from week to week. If we can cut this to five given up against SDSU, I'll be happy.

There is no place to go now except up!

Seriously, films will show our competition that rushing the outside loosens up our O-line. Its going to be tough to change that. But, as always, Mouse knows better.

THE BAD:/users/31/07/37/smiles/smily40.gif

While the drummers were doing their thing during the opener, I thought "what a great tradition this wouild be for a drum corps to play like that after every Viking score." So the bad at the Sac State game was the missing drum corps.
