The Jacks pt. 2

It's time to hit the road again. Time to take on the Lumberjacks again, this time in the unfriendly confines of the Rolle Activity Center.

We lead the series with NAU 68-26, we have won 7 in a row vs the Jacks, our last loss to NAU was in the 07-08 BSC semi final tourney game.

Last year in Flagstaff, Linsey Hughey hit a falling out of bounds 3 pointer to give Weber State a 4 point lead in the closing seconds to propel Weber to the 1 point victory 68-67. (Cameron Jones hit a 3 at the buzzer)

This is a team we cannot overlook, we know what happened in Pocatato, we can not let that happen in Flagstaff, every game is a must win, lets get after the Jacks from the get go, this Jacks team can shoot, we cant let them get hot.

It's Gameday GO WILDCATS

From what I could tell, the first matchup between these two teams, is that NAU runs a mass chaos offense. They had some success against Weber, probably because of their chaotic offensive scheme. Douglas didn't play in Ogden, I don't think it would have matter much, but still he is the leading scorer for the Jacks and quickly becoming the team leader.

For Weber this is a great chance for them to hone their defensive skills, run some often used sets, and get some guys some extra time. I'd like to see the Cats hold the Jacks under 40% on FGs and for Weber to shoot a solid, much, higher percentage. Weber has to be ready for NAU. They would love to knock us off the top.

I've seen NAU play once this year. We went to the game where they beat ASU in Tempe. Granted ASU is horrible this year but still it was a good win for NAU on the road against a PAC-12 team.

NAU looked good in that game. I'm surprised they don't have a better record based on that game alone. But maybe they played one of their better games of the year that day. I remember listening to the postgame show on the radio and ASU's coach Sendek said NAU's guards made all the difference and dominated the game. That was true...

So this is definately not a game Weber can overlook. Playing on the road at 7000 feet in a small gym. They need to come out strong and get at NAU early and not let them gain confidence in letting them hang around at all.

Get the 'Jacks!!!!

Wildcat - NAU isn't the shooting team this year that they have been in the past. Less post presence has led to teams clamping down on the guards. 3 point and overall shooting percentage is down this year. The ASU game in Tempe (glad I caught the highlight of the year in person) was the guard's best shooting performance this season by far. That hasn't carried over much into Big Sky conference play.

Anything can happen - that's why I like college hoops more than other sports - but the deck is stacked in favor of Weber State in this one. I'm just hoping for a competitive game and some more experience for NAU's young players. It could get ugly, though.

Talhad4steals - Douglas should play today. I haven't read anything about him being injured. He's doing well for a freshman and seems to have taken to this early leadership role. Durrell Norman - NAU's best rebounder @ 6' 4" as a guard (that says something about NAU's plight this year) - sat out most of last Saturday's game with back problems. I haven't heard whether or not he's playing tonight.

Zonacat - Glad you were able to join in the fun @ ASU this season. That was a fun afternoon. Problem is ASU won't invite NAU back now for another 4-5 years like last time.

Everett - Sadly, I think you are correct in your prediction.

If work allows, I'll hop on here during tonight's game.

Cheers, Weber Staters.

Always a pleasure having you here MT Jack

Wildcat and Everett - Glad someone appreciates the comments. I'll be living vicariously through your two teams in the Big Sky Conference playoffs and NCAA's this year.

I enjoyed catching a few NAU games @ Dahlberg when I lived up there. A game in Ogden @ the Dee is on my bucket list.

Very impressive feed. I wish they could all be like this!

NAU TV Production/Communication students do a nice job. I'm biased but I don't gripe about production quality for NAU home games as much as some of the other Big Sky venues.

Lots of purple in the crowd. Looks like the Weber fans made it up the mountain.

weber's feed is not very good at all. most of the time the audio won't work and lately they have the stadium PA audio on big sky tv so it is very annoying to hear double audio.

usually i have to just listen to the online radio feed and be 30 second head of bigskytv.

Re: Big SKy reffing... it could always get worse... Eric Curry could return. I know reffing is a hard and thankless job but I've never seen a ref be as whistle-happy and stare down players when making calls like he did. <end rant>

Talhad- Weber's shooting as poorly tonight as NAU has been all season. STDs must not be the only thing contagious in college towns. NAU hasn't rolled over and died tonight like they have a few times this season. Weber hasn't punished NAU for its 10 turnovers. Weber is playing at 7,000 feet elevation. Those are the only reasons I can come up with as to why this is still a game.

Lillard is fun to watch. Enjoy his time on the court, Webers. Players with his ilk are rare in the Big Sky. He was a different style player but I miss every 12-15 foot jump shot in the lane from Cameron Jones.
