Great keys for PSU...

I'd go as far to add this:

- MUST score first

* I wouldn't say that we have to score first, but we can't give up a long drive or big play on the UNM first possession. That would get the crowd into it and really make it an uphill battle. Stall or stop UNM on their first two offensive drives and we can get the crowd out of it.

- control the clock

* Very important with the elevation and the heat of the early evening. TOP will be very important to keep the lines fresh.

- Sawyer Smith(must be hot in order to win, no PICKS)

* I think he must be at least 50% with no more than one interception.

- Force Turnovers

* Either equal or the advantage on turnovers will put us in this game.

- establish running game without Ali

* Someone will have to step up... I'm a FB guy, so I'd pound it up the gut with our two FBs and try to wear their D Line down.

I hear their QB is good. Our defense should let him know right away that he may not be good enough to beat the Viks. Our defense has some terrific blitz packages. It might behoove us to use them in the first quarter.

Gawd, I'm much too tired to respond in detail now.

But UNM is simply too big, fast, and deep.

Good luck to you guys.

Upsets do happen, thats why they play the games.

Yeah, he's a third year starter. Constant pressure and different looks can force even the most seasoned QBs into bad decisions...

I don't think heat will be a problem. Looking at the forecast, it should be in the low 70's, maybe even the 60's, at gametime. It's been a cool and wet summer by New Mexico standards. It might ever rain Saturday, which could make things interesting.

I think the main key for New Mexico is to not give up too many turnovers. Too many turnovers creates upsets.

Other than that, I think they need to establish a running game, which will hopefully wear down your defense as the game goes on, and it will also open up the passing game. And on defense, they need to put pressure on the QB, which will hopefully create some turnovers and big plays on defense, which has been a trademark of Rocky Long's defense over the years.

PSU needs to keep the score within a TD at all times or things may get away from us

NM may have lost Dontrell Moore but most likely the back they have now should be just as good in the near future, and you know he will want to get off the right foot

Hey Lobo Addict,

How did Kole McKarney look in spring and fall practice? Did you get a chance to see him in the new offense? Message boards and school published articles (including PSU) are a tad bit biased.

"X" is looking great in 7 on 7 drills and practice. We're going all the way with "X"!!!!

;-)

Third year quarterback, but a new offensive coordinator...

I haven't had a chance to see him play in the new offense in person. So I have no firsthand knowledge. He sounds confident, but you just never know until you start playing games. Seeing the new offense on Saturday is what I am looking forward to the most (although it makes me a little nervous, too). If the Lobo offense gets clicking this season, I think they could make some noise. But that's a question mark right now.

I think the new offense will keep McKamey healthier, though. He's had several injuries over the last couple of seasons (a couple of concussions included), because in the old offense he was required to run the ball quite a bit, which he was good at but it was risky to his health. In the new offense, he'll spend more time in the pocket.

I've been to lots of practices, the spring game, and the end of summer scrimmage. Kole fits Toledo's offense like a glove. He seems self-assured, patient, and he's throwing extremely accurately.

This offense is very unpredictable, and offers lots of options!

I think Kole is going to be exceptional this season. The offensive line is a veteran line and has 3 potential NFLers. Blitzing Kole may be a blessing in disguise. He can take it to the house from anywhere on the field. His speed is an amazing 4.4 in the 40. He's an incredible athlete. The offense is pretty much similar to Portland State's. Your coach learned the offense from Bob Toledo our offensive coordinator so it will be somewhat similar. Our defensive front is the smallest it's ever been but they rotate about 6 or 7 in there. As for the linebacking corp they are probably one of the best groups there in a long time. The safeties are going to be great. The corners are probably the biggest question on the team. PSU should provide a test to them and help determine how much work is going to be needed to make our corners better. Good luck see ya on Saturday! Hope to see some of you there. I will come and talk to some fans of yours cause it's always great to get a feel for your program and fun to follow the rest of the season.

I really think that its going to be a great game! Both teams are really preparing for the game and each other. I just hope that each team can walk off the field without any significant injuries. Like what happened at the ASU vs. NAU game last night. NAU lost 3 of there key offensive players by the end of the game and there was two key players from ASU who had to be helped to the locker room. I think the UNM vs PSU game will be the best OC game for all the Big Sky teams this weekend.

Its been really awesome talkin with you Lobo fans, you all have had some really good input without conversations getting to intense. Your gracious and respectable fans and I hope you guys have a good season this year.

Well said GoViks!

this game is up for grabs, whoever wants it more will win

Believe me there is No LOBO OVERCONFIDENCE what's so ever on this team. They haven't proved anything yet and feel like they have too. A very very young team.
