Comparing Rahe to some of the great ones who walked the purple side lines.

Dick Motta 98-29 77%, 1964-1968, 3 big sky titles (3 titles in 4 yrs)
79 wins after 4 seasons
98 wins after 5 seasons

(Weber only played 25 games the first 4 years and 27 Motta's 5th and last year)

Phil Johnson was 68-16 84%, 1968-71, 3 big sky titles. In just 3 years he did all that but didn't get to 100 before leaving for the NBA.

Neil McCarthy, 200-98 67%, 1976-1985, 4 big sky titles (3 titles in 5 yrs)
85 wins after 4 seasons
111 wins after 5 seasons.

Ron Abegglen, 157-83 65%, 1992-1999, 3 big sky titles (3 titles in 6 yrs)
77 wins after 4 seasons
97 wins after 5 seasons

Joe Cravens, 116-88 57%, 2000-2006, 1 big sky title
77 wins after 4 seasons
92 wins after 5 seasons

Randy Rahe, 75-44 63%, 2007- , 3 big sky titles (3 titles in 4 years)
2 regular season games and the conf tourney to go
Next year will be his 5th season. His current contract is valid through Lillard's senior year.
The current trend says Rahe could out do them all besides McCarthy in the first 4 and 5 years.

Lillard's senior year in 2012 would also be Rahe's 6th season.
Only 3 of WSU's 9 coaches have coached longer than 6 years.

McCarthy 9 years
Abegglen 8 years
Cravens 7 years

I don't think many would have put Country Joe in this list as a great coach. He had great teams but they underachieved under his command. He should have won several big sky titles but they couldn't do it. Which is why he is still not coaching, instead doing tv and running a city rec department.

Coach Cravens spent 7 too many seasons at WSU. Is first year with Harold and Eddie was a joke. luckily for him Boyette came around.

Cravens might have been a good person but I was never impressed with his coaching. It was painful to watch his teams play. He only succeeded some of the time because of the talent he had. He could recruit. But what really upset me about Cravens is after he was fired and just wouldn't let it go. He would complain how he got shafted to anybody who would listen for several years after, and would probably still cry if asked about it today.

Rahe is a "players Coach". The team has eaten its pre game dinner at the same joint before every game for years, Cravens wouldn't even eat with the team. Rahe and his assistants sure do though.

CATCAT loves Cravens for some reason...I think its because he crowd surfed at MSU in 03.

He's a good guy. Honestly, I like Joe, but he isn't a good coach. He should have won four more championships with the talent he had.

99-00: Harold and Eddie?? WTF? Seriously..., 01-02: Supaman's JR year, 03-04 Slob, Nic, and Johnny (Sloth), 04-05 Lance, Riggs, and Stovall.

The Wizard, however, is the man. He is a good guy, great coach, and spends a lot of time with his players and staff. I hope Weber can keep him for at least two more years.
