THE Montana game

Going to be warm, windy and rainy. Typical fall in Portland. Forget the records, we have to bring our best to win this game.

One observation I've made listening to the Griz fans. They seem to feel pretty well about this game, mainly talking about our loss to North Dakota. I guess everyone will point to that game as it is the only game we lost. Ironically, no Griz fan has mentioned their loss to Cal Poly, the team we beat last week. They lost to the Mustangs at home, we beat the Mustangs on the road. I guess that game has been so long ago, with a different quarterback and some different starters that the Griz faithful conveniently forgot about that game. Come to think of it, game awhile back, different quarterback, different players, I guess that describes our North Dakota game.

Don't take what Griz fans chatter about, their maroon colored glassed are pop bottle thick so they are totally unreasonable.
Their QB had a big game against a weak ND secondary that was further weakened by a couple of injuries to key players.
If the Vikings continue to play Barney ball you will be just fine, probably a two score win.

We are #12 in the FCS poll. Other teams around us are Eastern Kentucky (#13) who has a big game at #1 Jacksonville State (that's Alabama, not Florida) so they will be making a big move up if they win that game. South Dakota State (#14) plays at Missouri State, who is winless in the Mo Valley this year. Harvard is further back and they beat Dartmouth last night, 14-13. Ahead of us is Fordham (#11) and they play at Colgate in a tough Patriot encounter, and finally McNeese State (#10) is at Abilene Christian, a middle pack Southland team. Montana is #17 so a win may push us into the top 10, depending on these other games.

The only downside of this game was the number of penalties. Some may have been weather related, but PSU needs to tighten that up. Otherwise a good team win.

I'm not going over to the opponents' forums anymore because it just frustrates me to hear all the negative crap that fans spout about their teams' performance, or their take on their coaches' decisions, or whatever. As if every game they deserve to win. You know what? The Viks kicked ass again because they are a really good football team. There.

PSU dominant today for sure. I normally don't read the
Montana boards but I knew they were underestimating the Vikings and knew there was going to be a train wreck over there if the Viks pulled out to an early lead. I just couldn't help myself. I guess it's like the little brother that finally beats the big brother at hoops. I just had to give myself the opportunity to see it. I can't imagine anyone overlooking the Vikings from here on out (I don't think other coaches have been, but fans have).

I'm not looking past anyone this season because there are teams in the big sky left to play that are good tested teams, but looking forward if the Vikings put up strong showings in the next couple of seasons, they are going to be very difficult to out recruit. PSU has so much to offer today's players coupled with an AD that in fact seems to be committed to football makes for a very formidable program.

Now that was some PNW rain today.

Some thoughts:

- Griz swagger is no more. MSU folks were more vocal a couple weeks back.

- Onwuasor. Awesome.

- Tough kicking for Gonzo tonight. Rough conditions to kick in.

- Hats off to the defense. Very impressive performance by all.

- Offense churned and burned. UM ran tempo, and we just ran over their ass tonight.

- Lock and load. Lets get ready for next week.

Looking at the outcomes of the other games, Fordham did lose to Colgate and, while McNeese eked out a win against Abilene Christian, James Madison (#9) lost to William and Mary. I'm thinking that Fordham and JMU will drop a bit and McNeese and us will move into the top 10.
