The pressure is on this year

I agree there is some adds in the news paper. But that is a very limited market because not many get the standard. and the two ads i saw were on pg 7 of 9 and 5 of 6 so i would guess half of the paper readers dont get that far into the paper. Yes it marketing but a half assed attempt at it. Granted yes its the first game so it could get better from here..
And im talking marketing in general

Easy for us to be critical, but I'm confident that the school would be willing to accept positive feedback on how to have more impact from a marketing perspective with very limited dollars. Obvious target market is the 26k students, also need to draw in local area high school students. I believe that newspaper advertising is for dinosaurs, need to be a lot more creative! Have to make Wildcat games more of an event.

Ogden is a tough draw, but a winning program has its advantages, but also a lot of competition for local dollars. I hear season ticket sales are robust, but we all need to admit that between the Jazz, Utes and BYU, competition is strong for sports dollars.

Need to build up the buzz!

Take a deep breath & consider one point; the focus of the athletic dept. marketing, with its limited resources, is on community support (getting the general public's & company's dollars, i.e. butts in the seats). It isn't the student body; sure, student attendance & enthusiasm is all important for the right college game atmosphere, but that should be promoted by the student body officers & activities associations. The student fees for athletics are in the bank, doesn't matter if there's 500 or 5000 students at the game. If students are interested (with a boost from officers in social clubs, frats, etc. too), then they'll know & go! From 100s of examples--friends/family--who've attended WSU for many years, there are those who take an interest and then there are the majority who have little interest in WSU sports events, no matter what the drumbeats! They have a job or other social interests. A commuter college like Weber will never have the student section of a USU, U, or BYU. Put your energy into contacting the SB officers, or college newspaper, or volunteer to hang posters at the Bell Tower. FYI, the alumni assoc. puts out a 'CyberCats' posting monthly news online about sports, performing arts, etc. & yes, the Standard runs a lot of ads for the dinosaurs reading it + whoever, there's online websites & with company support, like AFCU, there are promotions galore, as in FREE TICKETS. I'm sure the university folks involved would welcome your ideas, without all of the ranting & railing!

Not caring about the students is a HUGE problem. It is being very short sighted because students=future season ticket holders and boosters. Also a better student atmosphere brings in more of the community. We all complain wbout this and should help more but the commuter school excuse is just that: a sorry excuse. I know Weber St students driving to SLC, Logan, and Provo for those games so please stop throwing that out.

True...athletic marketing is definitely suppose to focus on the community, but it doesnt take a lot of resources to market on campus; just time and organization. Lets face it, student body leadership has been pretty piss poor over the years and it isnt going to improving this year. In a way, yes, I'm calling out WSUSA and SAA/The Pack. Prove me wrong. I'm well aware of what it takes to promote games and increase student attendance. That starts with the student leadership. Athletics can do more.

i dont really agree with the original post. i would say pressure to win the conf tourney after '09 and '10 should have been much higher in 2012 and 2013 then 2014. '12 was lillard's big year after coming back from his injury. we were down a bit in 2011 because of that so '11 expectations in the conf tourney weren't high.

2012 and 2013 we were so close to hosting and griz n weber were pretty even. we were very good and should have been in the ncaa tourney but the same should be said for the griz both of those seasons.

based on past success of the rahe program i would say the pressure should be to finish top 2 since rahe has done that 5 of his 7 seasons. we alll really want to host and even more than that we want to see our team get to the big dance. so there is pressure to continue to succeed; the bar has surely been raised since the cravens era...but i dont think the pressure can be more this year than past few seasons.

it will/would be remarkable to finish in the top 2 honestly after losing lillard and bamforth in back to back seasons. our program is in a great place right now. we are very fortunate fans. lets hope we can keep the great attendance going for another year.

Sorry Catcat, but I have to say the pressure is building. Rahe came in his first year and with a bunch of last minute jucos and Patten and won the whole thing. Since then he has been steadily building the program and has had several teams that should have gone to the big dance in March. Yes Montana has had good teams. But Rahe is beginning to get the reputation that he "can't win the big one," or that he is a far better recruiter than game coach. Fans will show up for winning teams, but if Weber's always coming up short at the end, support will start to diminish.
High expectations brings added pressure.
About time to get another banner up in the DEE.

I agree, the pressure to win is on and it's a good thing!
Rahe has the chance to go on a magnificent 5 year run with the talent at Weber State! Embrace the pressure and maximize the opportunity.

The crowds will come as long as the product is successful...... Lets quit hoping for mediocrity..... Anything less than the big dance the next 5 years is a failure! The high expectations are a good problem to have for the program!

Let the Big Dog eat!
