The team that wanted it more won...

What a load of nonsense. Clawman was there so I appreciate his perspective. Anyone who knows Coach Best or Coach Sawyer knows they demand complete effort. Coach Baldwin didn't win a national title by accident. We got beat because we made more mistakes than S Utah. These are not professional football players, they are student-athletes who deserve our support win or lose. Respect is the key word here. Both teams gave good effort and S Utah won. I won't disrespect our players, coaches or our opponent because a blocked punt, two turnovers and a missed field goal contributed to a close loss.

I will continue to support our players and coaches win or lose. We all are entitled to our own opinion even when we're wrong. But when we question effort we are questioning the individual integrity of our coaches and players. That is wrong. The player parents know the effort this team has displayed as do those close to the program. I expect another hard fought game next Saturday, may the best team win. Feeling pretty good about the team returning home at a reasonable time last night (thanks to our administration arranging a charter) so look out Cal Poly. Welcome to Cheney and our Red Turf.

Hope to see you at the Coaches Show Monday night where our die hard fans support Beau and our team win or lose. I was in Bozeman in 2010 when MSU punished us and we rebounded from that tough loss. This is a different team but I envision our guys responding with the best week of practice we've had this year.

Hold up, where is this coming from? No one on this board comes on here and doesn't support the team. But you're naive if you tell me this is the best the team can play. I see all the talent on this team and think it's hard to understand how we could play Southern Utah and lose. If you want to argue that SUU was just too good to overcome, well, you'd just be wrong. We came out and didn't finish, and it cost a win. Jeezus, it's not an integrity issue, it's just an issue of not getting it done on the field.

Supporting the team is miles different than saying "we played great" when we sure as hell didn't. Optimism is a serious problem when it isn't tempered with reality.

I think where you came off as arrogant and condescending and got people riled up is when you titled the thread and talked about effort or lack thereof. I don't think anyone is calling yesterday's game "the best this team can play." It was probably the best that SUU could play. Our players made some mistakes, some were costly and changed the momentum of the game, none were the result of quit or lack of "finish".

SUU has as many close losses as we have wins and it was going to be a competitive game at their place, on senior day, Sorenson playing his last home game, and ready to take on the #1 team. We weren't playing ISU, had we come out and lost to them, then you and Nail might have more people in agreement.

Yes, but that isn't at all what I said. I even specifically said it wasn't any issue of not putting forth an effort. From the very first post, I said the other team wanted it more. We had more talent and got out-executed by a team that just came out and gave it their all.

Here's the thing, and this is a GOOD thing, but we are ALWAYS going to get the opponent's best. Beating Eastern means something, because we are a notable program in the FCS landscape. You beat Weber State? No big whoop. You beat Eastern Washington? Wow, that's a big win for the program! Even to these playoff afterthought teams like Southern Utah, beating Eastern represents the crowning jewel achievement of the season. It's no different than how FBS teams seem to play a little better against Notre Dame. Because beating a power program, even in a down year, is a monster achievement that the team will remember forever.

We have done the work to become a great program. Now we need to do the extra work that makes an elite program... and that means coming out and hitting these other teams so hard that they lose their will to fight early in a game. I look at the roster and I see kids capable of doing just that. We CAN and SHOULD beat the Southern Utah's of the world by multiple touchdowns on the road if we come out and execute like we can.

So yeah, when we lose to a team we should beat, it is extra diappointing.

You should have used that word in your thread title.

Saying it more gently doesn't make it more accurate. Plus, saying it in the most politically correct way doesn't get people talking. 8-)
