This is a sloppy team...

I went to the game last night and have to say that this Eagle team is just plain dysfunctional. I don't kinow enough about the sport to be too critical, but Eastern was bigger/stronger/faster and even had better shooters than PSU. Unfortunately, this looks like the dumbest team I've ever seen. They have no offensive game plan other than playing pick-up ball and turn the ball over every other time down the court. Portland State must've scored 30 points on totally uncontested shots when they grabbed a steal and just threw an outlet pass to a wide open player for a dunk or lay-in.

This is about the tenth year in a row where the team just sort of meanders through the season without improving. I'm not so sure we're on any sort of course of improvement. What's worse is that the Big Sky is just Gawd awful right now, and Eastern can't even manage to routinely stay in the conference playoff positions. It wouldn't take much to be a top-tier b-ball team in this conference.... but it's a lot more than we're getting now. :twocents:

I couldn't agree more, but would add that we are not only sloppy but also do not play hard. We don't play defense (62 points in a HALF vs PSU!!!) especially when the other team misses a shot.

However, Hayford will get AT LEAST two more years because he is Chaves' boy.

"However, Hayford will get AT LEAST two more years because he is Chaves' boy."

Still sounding the drum beat for your buddy Earlywine, eh? Good to see some things never change.

I thought we were going to have a promising season this year, we had some young talent returning, but it just seems we can't put it together.

We have some great shooters, but it doesn't seem like we have very many athletes on the floor.

Hopefully these guys can turn it around, this year may be a bust, but we have a lot returning and should have a nice year next year.

As far as the Hayford comments, I think you need to give a coach 5 years. Give them a chance to bring in their kids and bring a class through, go from there. Most of Hayfords recruits won't be seniors until next year and the following year, we can make judgments after that.

We have some tough games down the stretch, I think we finish 5-6 or 6-5 from here on out looking at the schedule...

We are not a sloppy team. We are a very good team. Just some bad breaks. Hayford is a great coach. If you don't agree, go to another board and post. We will make the tournament and I think have a great chance of winning. Go Eags!

1990 ... you sound like a 10-year-old. Did you get permission from your parents to use the internet before you submitted that last post?

Seriously?? Which 5 or 6 teams do you think they can beat? I would not be surprised if they do not win another game. Seems like teams usually get better as the season goes along but this team is getting worse. Regardless of the reasons why, they look worse each game.

Cootie can refer to: Head lice (slang); Cooties, a fictional disease which affects children in their early years; or...

Your welcome.

Hey 98 - you brought up Earlywine's name - not me. My statement was about our defense, Hayford's contract, and who hired him. Seems SOMEBODY is obsessed with the previous coach

SOMEBODY might to check their post history and look for a hissy fit during the last coaching change.

If by "obsessed" you mean "thrilled he's gone", then you're right.

Again 98 - why do you want to keep talking about a previous coach? I want to talk about the sloppiness that ldopa refers to, and the bad defense by THIS years team. Time to move on - don't ya think?

I have had the pleasure of meeting Coach Hayford when the team came to Canada last year and won all of their games against very good Canadian university teams.Coach Hayford is a very nice man and in my opinion an excellent coach.Give the man a chance and in the next 3 years you will be rewarded with a Big Sky Basketball championship. This team is talented and will only get better.

Two years is a fair amount of time for him. Possibly three. You have to remember, we have been down for a while. Unless you are a truly, absolutely incredible coach, you can't turn around a program that quickly. Let his first recruiting class carry on through graduation and measure his results then.

Not an issue of faith at all. Go back and watch that Portland State game from last year, Eastern was a mess. I was the OP and never said or advocated for any changes, I only made mention that on this night, we were wretched.
