Thoughts on the Offense

Much has been said about the D, and I think we all agree it needs to improve in order to make a run at a National Title. But, I was curious as to some of your thoughts on the Offense after the return of VA from injury this season.

It seems the Offense never returned to form after VA came back from injury. Granted, 2 of those 4 games were against Montana who can bring pressure in the back field, but I almost wonder if VA was still a bit dinged up, along with Quincy Forte. The offense didn't play with the same swagger that they had pre VA injury. Coop missed some catches, VA missed throws and didn't look nearly as mobile, and Quincy had moments where he looked slower and unable to make cuts. At times, it almost looked as though we should have just huddled because the pace was that slow.

I don't mean to seem down on the offense or any of our guys. After all, we still scored 36, 37, 46 and 56 in those four games, but it just seemed like the O was out of sync down the stretch.

I noticed some of the same things, but I think it's probably a combination of a lot of factors. I don't know if VA was truly 100% after he came back from that injury, but the offense just didn't seem to be in "playoff form" like it did at the beginning of the year. Kupp doesn't drop a lot of balls, but there was a stretch during the ISUr game where he dropped 2 or 3 in a row. Overall, they didn't seem to play with the same swagger as they did prior to the VA injury. Granted, UM and ISUr have good defenses so that could have something to do with it.

All that said, the O will be just fine next year. We're absolutely loaded at receiver and the O-Line should be good. Biggest question for me is at RB, where we lose three Seniors to graduation. Not sure there's a clear #1 between Jabari Wilson and Jalen Moore, but those are the only 2 scholarship running backs I see on the roster outside of this year's Seniors. I wonder if we'll pursue a transfer RB.

The word is that we will sign as many as three RB's this year, but for sure two. One has already been mentioned in the recruiting thread. The other name I have heard and will keep to myself for now. But if it pans out, I think everyone will be very pleased.

any hints?

Sorry, nothing I am at liberty to disclose just now. This player's name has not come up in the recruiting thread or in the media, yet. There's a reason for that.

Why bring it up at all then if you can't talk about it? Irritating. It's like one of those mother's brother's cousin deals.
