SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State football team inked the first three members of its 2008 recruiting class with the signings of three junior college players. All three players will enroll at the University for the spring semester and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
The trio is comprised of offensive linemen Peter Lenz and Clinton Lessard and defensive end Cory Dehl. Lenz and Dehl come to Sacramento State from perennial JC power City College of San Francisco. Lenz (6-3, 300) was a starter at guard all season and helped lead the Rams to 11-1 overall record and victory over Mt. SAC in the state championship game.
Dehl (6-1, 250) tallied 28 total tackles as a defensive end in 10 games. That total included 7.5 tackles-for-loss, and 7.0 sacks for a combined loss of 49 yards. He also had one pass breakup, recovered a fumble and blocked a kick. In the state championship game, Dehl had four tackles, including two sacks for 20 yards.
Lenz and Dehl were also high school teammates at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, Calif. As seniors in 2004, the pair helped lead the Dons to a 12-1 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in East Bay Athletic League games. The team’s lone loss came against De La Salle in the North Coast Section title game.
Lessard (6-3, 305) spent the previous two seasons at Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif. Last season, the Wolverines posted a 9-2 overall record and won the Valley Conference title with a 5-0 record. Sierra advanced to the Northern California championship game before falling to CCSF. Before playing for Sierra, Lessard prepped at Rocklin High School. As a senior in 2005, he helped lead the Thunder to an 11-2 overall record and 6-1 mark in Sierra Foothill League games. That season, Rocklin advanced to the City Championship Div. II game before falling to Del Oro, 18-15.
