We signed three more guys. These guys are winners from winning teams.

Alesana Laban from Grant, Jeff Rodgers from Cardinal Newman and Chris Briasco from Sierra College have signed their LOIs. I believe there will be a formal announcement in a day or so at http://www.hornetsports.com.

Alesana Laban (#72), is a 6'2", 275 lb defensive lineman from Grant. He had 55 tackles and 4 sacks on the season. He was Lineman of the Year in the Metro conference and First Team Sac Bee All-Metro. He was also a co-captain of the Grant High STATE Championship team this year.

Chris Briasco is a 6'1", 225 lb. LB from Sierra College. He graduated from Colfax High School.

Jeff Rodgers played both ways at RB and LB. Rushed for 13 TDs and 1,486 yards on 146 carries (10.3 avg. yards/carry). Also had 32 catches for 418 yards receiving and two TDs. Defensively had 76 tackles at LB. Cardinal Newman won the D2 NorCal section championship and lost to St. Bonaventure in the state championship. He was also the Co-MVP for the North Bay league with his team mate Randy Wright, who signed with UC Davis as a QB.

Pacers have two more football scholarship players
Two more Pacers are on their way.

Grant coach Mike Alberghini confirmed today that Alesana Leban and Jordan Wallace have signed letters of intent to play college football on scholarship.

Leban, a 6-foot-3, 275-pound two-way lineman, will play defense for Sacramento State. Jordan Wallace, a 6-foot, 200-pound linebacker may switch to safety at Washington, where his brother, C.J. was a four-year starter (and now plays for the Seattle Seahawks).

That gives Grant four players headed to four-year programs, with Alberghini saying there could be more in the coming weeks. Last week, on letter-of-intent day, Bee All-Metro players Kipeli Koniseti and Jeremiah Toma signed with Arizona State and Fresno State, respectively. In short, a growing good haul for a Pacers bunch that went 14-0, steamed to it's second unbeaten season in three years and finished ranked No. 6 nationally by USA Today, the highest finish for a prep football team since Cordova was No. 4 in 1979.

"It was a great day for Grant," Alberghini said.

Wallace had 125 tackles, including 22 against Granite Bay in a playoff opener, 16 against Woodcreek in a semifinal and 12 against Burbank in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II title game.

Alberghini on Wallace, "He was not on the radar as a junior because he missed some games with a thigh bruise. But this game, he played extremely well in big games. He has good size and speed to play safety, and it'll be nice for his family to go up and watch Jordan play on a Saturday and his brother C.J. on a Sunday with the Seahawks."

And Alberghini on Leban, "A great kid, a team captain. It's a great find for Sac State to get him."

Ex-Colfax High and Sierra College linebacker Chris Briasco has accepted a scholarship to play football at Sacramento State.

Chris Briasco. a mainstay at linebacker the past two seasons for the Sierra College Wolverines, will sign a national letter of intent on Thursday to play football on a full scholarship at Sacramento State next season.

Briasco, a 2006 Colfax High graduate, was a key defensive factor on two of Sierra's recent Valley Conference championship teams.

"I'm excited," said Briasco. "It's a chance to play close to home in front of family and friends. It played a big factor in the scholarship."

Briasco had turned down a scholarship offer from Old Dominion in Virginia last week and had planned on "walking on" at Sacramento State.

However, the Hornets had a late scholarship become avaiiable and offered it Tuesday evening to the ex-Falcon and Wolverine.

Briasco, 6-1 225, is expected to contend for a starting spot at middle linebacker for the Hornets.

“Chris was very much the glue of our defense this year,” Sierra coach Jeff Tisdel said. “He was one of our leaders this year. I'm so happy for him that everything worked out."

Cardinal Newman’s two-way football star, Jeff Badger, has accepted a partial scholarship to Sacramento State.

Badger rushed for over 1,400 yards and led Cardinal Newman in tackles from his inside linebacker position as the Cardinals went 13-1 this season and played in the Division III state championship game.

“He was one of those players who affected a game in so many different ways,” said Cardinal Newman head coach Paul Cronin. “It wouldn’t be a shock to me if he was playing as a freshman.”

Sacramento State indicated that Badger could earn a full scholarship according to playing time.

Badger was the second leading rusher in the state title game, which St. Bonaventure of Ventura won, 28-6. Badger rushed 16 times for 81 yards in the game and was credited with two tackles.

Badger, who turned down an offer from Air Force because of the nine-year commitment, said he plans on signing his letter of intent today. Sacramento State had told him he’ll probably red shirt his freshman year.

Sac State got a great player in Jeff Badger. I watched a couple of CN games and he stood out. I was very impressed with Sac State's 2009 recruiting class.

Add three more to these three. I understand there will be an announcement shortly about two more offensive lineman and a cornerback.

One of the offensive lineman is Matt Shinn. This guy sounds like a stud. He was ranked a three star recruit by rivals.com and two star by scout.com.

Los Osos offensive lineman Matt Shinn (6-4, 265) has signed to play football for Cal State Sacramento, said Grizzlies coach Tom Martinez by text message.

As a senior and the only returning starter on the offensive line at Los Osos, Shinn's job was to protect the blindside of UCLA-bound quarterback recruit Richard Brehaut and help create holes for Northwestern-bound running back Arby Fields.

Shinn made the All-Press-Enterprise first team.

Sac State put together an impressive recruiting class this year. Any info. on the three new ones HHD? Are they high school or JC players?

Cal Poly has signed some of their best players in the weeks after signing day. Kids that were led to believe there would be a FBS scholarship for them but the scholarship offers fell through. I think it is always a good idea to keep a few scholarship in reserve after signing day just for that reason. Also there are always a few FBS players who decide to transfer after spring ball when they realize they wont be strarting. Cal Poly has not signed many transfer under Ellerson, that might change under Walsh. He had quite a few transfers in his days up at Portland State.

Cal Poly starts spring practice April 1rst. Does anyone know when spring balls starts for Sac State? Should be an exciting spring for both schools.
