Throw the upper classmen under the bus

We barely had a winning season and Boyer is making sure that everyone understands that it is because of HIS decision to go with freshmen and sophomores at the skilled positions, that we finished 6-5. I believe that the reason for doing this is to create a win-win situation FOR HIM, that is, whether UNC wins or not, he will say it is because of the youth of the players. What he is really doing is masking his inability to prepare and coach the players to consistently win games.
He displayed this strategy at the end of the season when he chose not to nominate three upper classmen starters who were recognized by Big Sky (BS) coaches as one of the best at their position. I have a friend at the BS Conference office who confirmed that none of the following three were nominated. I am conjecturing that Boyer is the one who made the decision not to nominate them, making sure that no upper classmen would be given credit for the 6-5 season. had any of the three been nominated, they would have received BS post season honors.
Starting OL Piechowski (#76) received 2014 Big Sky honorable mention and preseason 2nd team honors. He started all games this year and anchored an improved OL. He played consistent and paved the way for our runners.
WR Miller (#87) received the same 2014 post season and 2015 preseason honors as Piechowski, as well as led UNC in yardage and TDs. He did this after being relegated to the second team for half the season. Interestingly a friend at the Big Sky office said that Wesley, Deggs and Onic were nominated at the WR position.
3-year starter FB Zamora (#44) received BS honors in 2013 & 2014, and was named one of the top FBs in the country. Defensive coaches from EWU and SUU were surprised that he wasn’t nominated. They said that he “pancaked” their best players, including 1st team All-American DE James Cowser from SUU.
Clearly Boyer wants to set up a situation where he will receive the credit if we win, and be able to defer the blame to the youth, if we lose. When senior WR Leslie (#83) approached Boyer after the huge loss at NAU, Boyer ridiculed him in front of players and parents, leading to Sean’s decision to “hang up” the cleats. Let's hope that Coach Kerr doesn't get the same attitude about upper classmen, cause we will need Willingham when he comes back for the 2016 season.

At some point you've got to let go of your hatred toward this man. Did Boyer steal your lunch money in elementary school? Coach isn't perfect, but he's a Bear all the way. He will continue to get better in my opinion. Enjoy the holiday's, throw away your dart board with Jon's picture on it and go spend some time with the family.

I appreciate your comments. Unfortunately your assumption that I HATE Coach Boyer is all wrong. There is not one ounce of hatred. I do believe that Boyer is a true blue Bear, but I also believe that he has not done a good enough of a job to stay on as coach at UNC. Bottom line is the record.
It is my opinion that the hiring of Collins and bringing in Boyer from Mesa State was a very good calculated move. What better way to bring back the winning ways of the past than to bring in a couple of former players. This type of strategy has worked and failed many times other schools. It has failed here. I think that this staff wasn't properly vetted before hiring. Just look at their records at the schools they came from.
Like Boyer, I also bleed blue and gold and hope for the best. I just don't think this staff will do it.
Thank you for your concern and comments.

No, it's pretty evident you have an axe to grind against him. Go look at past comments. I would say most are about your displeasure w/ Boyer. It's like an obsession with you.

I looked at the stats just five seconds ago and noticed we were in the middle of the pack among conference leaders in offensive stats. Not horrible, but not great either. It's just like Boyer himself. He's not bad, but not great either. He's what UNC will pay for. We can't afford a Norv Turner.

Agreed. Merry Christmas to all the Bear fans on the board. I look forward to the new year. Go Bears!

And a big Merry Christmas to all also. I think most would agree it has been a tough go for years around here and we are fortunate to vent our displeasure on this board but when it comes down to it we are all True Bear fans and want nothing better than for this program to succeed !

A couple of weeks ago on Meet the Press Paul Ryan made a statement that best summarizes my comments about the UNC staff. He said that just because a person may have a bad idea (he was referring about the left side of the aisle) it doesn't mean they are bad people. He continued by saying that "we all must work together." In reality, because this is a message board, my comments don't mean a damned thing. That said...
The fact that Boyer has decided to coach in a manner that has not produced consistently on the field, does not mean he is a bad person. I have read some very defamatory, bordering on libelous comments about the staff throughout the year. I have NEVER made one of those. In fact, if you read all of my comments you will see that I defended Collins several times this past year. I even predicted that UNC would go 8-3.
Relating it to the business world, the staff can only be as good as the people above them. I guess what I am saying is that Boyer can only be as good as Collins allows (manages) him to be. That would mean that Dunn and Norton have a huge say in this mess as well.
Because of my 35+ years as a coach, my comments are probably just a little too direct and "old school" for some people to understand.
Go Bears!

I guess my question is what qualified coaches stay in one place for 6 years? Maybe I just don't know how the coaching world works but 6 years seems a little odd considering what I read about and see on ESPN with good coaches leaving for bigger schools and bad coaches always being replaced. Again maybe they all just really like Greeley and UNCO gold or yellowish is hard to leave. Maybe the money they all make prevents them from taking different opportunities because I bet Boyer has had tuns of different opportunities and so has the other guys who arrived with Coach C. They must be very loyal men in order to stay so long so I give them that. Plus Greeley is a really nice area and I could never imagine leaving here to pursue newer professional ventures on the horizon. I say we should be thanking all these coaches instead of bashing them for turning down jobs in order to stay here and build this program. Or maybe I'm just starting to feel the Clorox in my egg nog. Happy NY everyone.

Surely you can't argue against the inconsistent performance of this coaching staff and the unbelievable decisions they made with playing what are, at best, special teams players, over top tier starters. The week after Miller had over 100 yards, he barely had a pass thrown to him. What? Is this staff that afraid of someone having press greater than the black players he wanted to be in the forefront? Let's call a spade a spade. This head coach is a flat out racist. He can't stand for anyone to stand out unless they are black. Look at who he benched this year. And before you start crying about the QB position, he didn't have an option. Look at what people are saying who are brave enough to step forward and speak the truth. Stop closing your eyes to the truth of what is happening at this school. Zamora. Miller. God knows how many other kids have been sidelined because of their color. And now we have people defending him over a crappy record at best. He still needs to be fired. The whole lot of them because racism is hatred in the worst form. And ignorance begets ignorance. No matter the form. I saw what happened at Missouri and wonder why we still allow it here. Is it because he is black? I don't care. If he were white we would be screaming. Ask yourself why it's ok just because it's the other way around. It's still just as harmful. And just as lasting.

And no one has to let go of any 'hatred'. It's disgust for the lack of leadership and failure to stand up for the kids. You just want to label it as hatred on our part because then you can keep turning your head and allowing this to continue. But, failure to act makes us all just as guilty. Make a stand. If not now, when?
