Thurs: WSU @ UNC

WSU is 4-1 all-time vs UNC. 3-0 at home 1-1 in Greeley.

The 2 teams had never played before UNC joined the Big Sky in '06.

Yeah, it should be an interesting barometer to see where our team is at a little past mid way through conference season..

Yeah, it's been on and off.. I'm probably going to try to go to avoid that problem (seems like forever since we had a home game). I've noticed Weber State has had their usual success, congrats. Right now it looks like Portland State, Weber State and everyone else right now.

I think out of Weber's last 3 away games, UNC is the one Im worried about the most, especially if its anything like what happened earlier this year. CAts need to come out strong from start to finish.

Or hope we play like we did at NAU.

I thought we played like shit against NAU to be honest. They are a pretty bad team and we gave them a huge lead, fought back which was great, but then totally laid an egg at the end by putting on a clinic in how to blow a three point lead with 20 seconds left...

We have had a real struggle killing teams off, unless we're up by 5 or 6 with a minute to go we've blow 3 or 4 games which isn't good. It's all part of the growing up process but frustrating to watch.

I agree with that statement, and I'm pretty sure that Boyle would as well.

We have no prayer to win this game with so many turn overs... :(

I have a feeling it's going down to the wire. Up by 2 with a couple minutes in the first half.

But I am getting the feed on Big Sky tv so I have to mention that after complaining so much.

OK I'm just going to say it and it's not PC but oh well... We aren't going to be able to compete until we get a legit point guard... Sorry to say the guys we are using now at the point are just scorers that happen to be short so they handle the ball. What we don't have is a floor general up at the top handling and distributing the ball, playing smart, playing tough, and most importantly NOT turning the ball over all the time. The empty, wasted possessions are just too frequent and impossible to overcome.

Nothing against the kids running the point now but they just aren't that type of player. We were better off last year with Pangliotopoulis, at least he understood his limits, played smart, played team basketball, and got the most out of his ability.

OK rant over, sorry had to say it.

Blofield, I certainly understand what you are getting at.. Although I appreciate Pena's aggressiveness he needs to be more of a true point in order for this team to maximize their success.. Same goes with Bonner.. I'm a big proponent of pushing the ball up the floor but that is a little overkill even for me. We still seem to be pretty close to making the "jump" but still a bit off.. I'm gonna say it again as well, JB needs to at least touch the ball on almost every possession. He doesn't necessarily need to shoot all the time, but give him the rock let him go to work and let him play an inside-out game with our good shooters.

Bear in mind, though, that the intent of the offense isn't an inside-out game; it is about guards creating by driving and kicking. When you hear "motion offense", that's the general idea.

High screens are set by the 4s & 5s with the goal of freeing up the man handling the ball. If the screen isn't used by the guard or the defender stays with him, that leaves the big man free for a pick-and-roll. If the screen is successful in knocking the defender off, another d-man is forced to move over or leave the shot open. If the second defender moves over, that leaves another man open, usually on the perimeter.

If a guard gets inside off a drive, one of two things should happen:
1. Defender comes out to help, freeing up someone else inside
2. Defender stays back, leaving open the guard to shoot

Its constant ball-movement based on trying to catch the defense out of position by being active with the basketball.

Usually, instead of shooting the mid-ranger jumper, our guards try to attack the goal and get a lay-in, but haven't been knocking them down for any number of reasons.

Also, part of why an inside-out game doesn't work right now for this club is that JB is constantly being double-teamed. That's where we need consistency from the guards in scoring.
