Time for a new QB?

Did all the hype going into the season go to KM's head? He's NOT playing well. Terrible reads on the zone read, looking down receivers, late getting the read, throwing it up into crowds, about every mistake a QB can make.

Listen, I've never liked his mechanics but at least he made some plays in the past. Now I just cringe every time he flicks the ball downfield. As a runner he may be big but he's just not quick enough to run the zone read. Regardless of running ability, we just can't have a QB averaging 2 picks/game and expect to win in this league.

I know Penn has trouble learning the offense, but he deserves a shot at playing a whole game. Am I wrong?

In this era, you just cannot win without a good QB. Sadly, we thought we had one, but we don't.
 
QB gets all glory for wins at PSU but never seems to shoulder blame for losses. PP might have trouble learning the 6 or 7 plays we run on offense but he drives the ball 70 or 80 yards and gets TD and I can't remember him turning it over. He should get a shot at a whole game no doubt.

I believe it's a coaches ego getting in the way. As a person on the sideline I'm pretty sure other teams coaches are telling their secondary to watch KM and start moving to where he is looking count 1 and 2 and break to the receiver he is looking at to intercept. he is a very easy read.

KM doesn't look off the safety and doesn't check down so it's not that hard to get a turn over if you watch his eyes.
 
I'm in agreement here. They should mix things up more at the position, and let Penn and maybe even Ramirez split time at the 1 next week.
 
I think that a good thing to do would be to allow a first QB to score. The next QB then comes in to direct the Offense and when he scores, he passes the baton to the next QB, who then seeks to score. This way, it creates a friendly competition among the QBs and it should have a positive effect on scoring and maximizing performance when they get their shot. Each QB is allowed two offensive series to score either a TD or a FG. The OC can override this condition if he notes a particular QB has the hot hand that day.
 
Not a good sign when you play three quarterbacks two weeks in a row. Any guesses who starts against Weber today? Kieran has struggled and Penn has pretty much run the ball whenever he's in. Ramirez was the QB for the two touchdowns last week, but he was working with such short fields and pretty much just handed the ball off to DJ, so I don't think it's an obvious call for who should start.

My hope they try something new and go with Collin, maybe the best mix or run and pass of the three.
 
OK, this is getting really weird. Ramirez starts and plays the entire game (except when Plinke decides to rumble), and if it weren't for Adams, Tago, and Lilly we could be looking down the barrel of another loss. There just isn't any production coming from the QB position. We start the season with what we consider envious depth at the position and find ourselves keeping our fingers crossed hoping the QB of the day doesn't find some way to bury us.
 
Scooter, the QB does more than pass, though people these days think that's all they do. Big Sky isn't great at rush defense so that's what we do. What you're saying is you don't much like the rushing game. That's fine, but don't take it out on the QB. I doubt that he's calling the plays.
 
And by the way - Cal Poly beat Davis today, rushing for 414 yards and passing for 15. Yep, that's 15. Cal Poly leads the nation in rushing. We're close to them.

PDX, It's not a matter of volume passing. As a matter of fact, I love our rushing game, but a tremendous amount of energy went into developing a more balanced attack for good reasons. In this offense it's the QB's ability to read defenses, deliver passes on target (most of the time), be reasonably adept at play action, and mobile enough to make the opposition pay for not respecting his abilities. It's not Collin or any other player per say, it's the overall lack of a threat that has hindered this offense of late. Maybe part of it is play calling (why on earth is a right handed QB rolling out to his left to throw so often? That's got to be awkward!). If we expect to beat the top echelon teams in the BSC (and that's not Cal Davis) we will have to make them pay for loading the box.
 
Scooter's "qb of the day" comment is cute...but not very pertinent. Sounds as if he's trying to ding the coaches for not sticking with a player. Penn was on the sidelines out of uniform and McDonough is hurt.

I think you have that reversed: Penn is hurt, was not in pads, due to a shoulder injury he received in the North Dakota game. McDonagh was the back-up because of his poor performaces in the last few games. Although not spectacular, I think Ramirez did a good job out there, and should get better with experience. I like McDonagh's game, but he isn't reading defenses well and is locked on his first option. Don't know why he has regressed and even more disheartening is he looks to have loss his confidence. Only a true Sophomore, so a view from the sidelines may help him in the long run.
 
I agree, Forest. KM was a youngster freshman when he started, just out of high school. He had and has a lot of growing to do. Being dropped back to backup has got to be hard on the ego. He'll learn or he won't. I think he's smart enough to learn, but may not do it fast enough for this season. Hard to say about Ramirez. He had that spectacular year at JC - he should be a good passer. But he's been tentative as a PSU QB. Admittedly, he hasn't been in long enough to say. Guess we'll see with ISU.
 
Agree with PDX and FG on McDonough's confidence issue...but, my understanding is that he also has been playing hurt.
 
I think KM has a sore shoulder but he's out b/c of all the turnovers. There's been a zero tolerance policy for turnovers since early in the year. That's why DJ didn't start the ND game (he fumbled the week before).

As long as Ramirez continues to take care of the ball and not hurt us, he'll stay the QB.
