EWURanger said:TJ scores his first NFL TD! A 22-yard run off-tackle! I think he's up to around 60+ yards now, with most of those in the second half. Stats would be better if he hadn't had those two plays wiped out by penalties.
And EWU got a plug on Sunday Night Football, which is always good. :thumb:

By the looks of the Oakland defense they are going to need a LOT of TD's to win any games
OAKLAND -- And you thought Taiwan Jones had issues just facing the first NFL defense of his nascent professional career Sunday night.
The rookie running back from Antioch and Raiders fourth-round draft choice from Eastern Washington had to secure tickets for up to 30 of his closest friends and family to attend his Oakland debut. Besides the ducats, Jones also treated them to a show. He ran for a game-high 81 yards on 13 carries, including a 22-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter.
Jones, who has been timed as fast as 4.27 seconds in the 40, exhibited his speed and his ability to change direction on a dime.
"The hardest thing was trying to slow myself down," Jones admitted. "I was so anxious and excited that I was able to showcase my talent against another team that I was a little too fast sometimes. I just had to slow things down, take a deep breath and try to be patient."

In his first drive in Sunday night's Saints vs Raiders preseason contest, Jones rushed nine times for 59 yards and a touchdown. On at least two of those runs, there was absolutely nothing in front of Jones after accepting the handoff but New Orleans linebackers, and Jones still managed to freeze the defenders and burst forward for a first down.
Jones appears to be a star in the making in his young Raiders career. He's quick, agile and decisive. He can shift into another gear once he gets past the line of scrimmage. And more importantly than anything else, he sees the field well. He has a great sense for the defense and his run-blocking -- particularly, where the blocking is breaking down.
So will he threaten to take over Michael Bush's carries during the 2011 NFL season?
In terms of pure talent, there's an argument. And Jones would certainly be a great compliment to Darren McFadden. The larger issue, though, is the health of McFadden, or rather the (low) likelihood that McFadden stays healthy for an entire season. More than likely, Oakland will need to employ a three-deep backfield anyway, so even if Jones does usurp Bush's primary backup role, both will likely still see significant carries at some point during the season.
It really was classic Taiwan. If he stays healthy, and MAN do I hope he does, I bet he has a break out season like DeSean Jackson. He really is a special talent and it showed.eaglesfootball said:damnit I didnt get a chance to watch Jones play last night. thanks for the video link

It was pretty clear that Colinsworth couldnt get enough of Jones. And I think he was going up against the 1st string defense too for the early part of his playing time.

How awesome would it be for TJ to reach Chris Johnson status? The EWU references all the time on national television, and in a few years a huge contract for TJ. Once he establishes himself and we don't push him away from EWU like allegedly happened to Stucky, maybe we can get a permanent grandstand built on the other side of Roos. The question would then become, Roos Field aka The Inferno at Jones Stadium?
