Tough Night for Hawai'i

Though they made all non-BCS Div. I (both FCS and FBS) schools very proud this year and tonight. They are proof that anything is possible in college football.

I agree. A bit more could have been done to protect Warrior QBs, but the majority of that rests with the OL, not the officials. GA had LOS domination the entire night on both sides of the ball, and that, in my mind, is what did the job for them.

I question a few GA decisions in the light of fairness (i.e. the 2nd half challenge and the 4th down red zone pass with the game well in hand). Yet, Mark Richt is still a good man, and if Hawai'i had to lose, I'm glad it was to him. The color guy made some lame reference to GA playing for next year's preseason poll; fortunately, the PxP guy was smart enough to call him on that. Completely bogus. Richt, while he could very easily have shut it down (as he did when his 3rd QB entered the game), was merely getting as many people as possible some PT. He could have done that with a restricted offense, but then again, Hawai'i SHOULD have been able to stop the scrubs.

That said, I'd like to see a mercy rule instituted to keep teams from being embarrassed. The point level would have to be graduated by quarter and would be subject to debate, but at least we could keep something like this from happening again. It would have to be rather high so as to allow somewhat for a Frank Reich-type comeback. But a 40-point drubbing is in nobody's interests.
