Tough Stretch

We have a tough stretch to finish the year

SUU (5-2)
@UM (5-1)
@ISU (3-3)
MSU (4-2)
@Cal Poly (3-3)
PSU (3-4)

I know we need to take it 1 game at a time but my thoughts are:

if we go 6-0, we are the 3 seed in the playoffs
If we go 5-1, probably a 4-8 seed
If we go 4-2, we are in the playoffs, but playing on the road, first round
3-3 or worse and we are sitting at home come playoff time.

The only game I am really worried about is the Griz game. I think we win the rest. Cal Poly might be a let down game after MSU, and their strength is our weakness, but I think we win that one.

Thoughts?

I think you're accurate with your thoughts. I believe that we'll end up exactly where you posted if we do indeed fall in one of those win-loss category's. I personally think we 6-0 is best case scenario, while 4-2 is worst case scenario baring some major circumstance.

I'm most worried about the road game in Missoula, as we just don't win there often despite always playing really well there. It's a tough place to pick up a road game and they will be ready and amped up to play us.

As far as another possible loss, I'm more worried about Montana State than I am Cal Poly. Everyone thought Cal Poly played to our weakness last year as well, and then we blew them out. MSU on the other hand, will also be looking for revenge, but at least we have them at home.

I say 5-1 the rest of the way and will be in Missoula cheering loud and proud for a W!! :nod: :thumb:

Looking at the FCS schedule, Sam Houston still plays at Mcneese and C. Ark, NDSU still plays at S. Ill and Youngstown. If we run the table, we have a shot at a top 2 seed....

Montana State is back in a big way with McGhee healthy again. Both of those Montana schools are going to be tough games; none of the others (sans Idaho State) are pushovers. There's no margin of error on this schedule. It sure would have been nice to be pasting Valparaiso, Mississippi Valley State, Houston Baptist, or Butler that week when we were getting beat by Toledo.

Don't forget about Montana State's favorite opponent University of the Incarnate Word :thumb:

I would have taken a 2nd bye week and play 11 games rather than play the Toledo game, but in all honesty I'm not sure it really hurt us. I don't think we would be ranked any higher if we would have beaten a patsy FCS team at home because we still lost to Sam Houston.

Now, had we lost to OSU, we would be in trouble right now...which is why the 2nd FBS game stinks...

Yeah, Baldwin bailed Chaves' ass out by winning in Corvallis. Without that win, Chaves would have another round of tough questions to answer.

I fundamentally disagree.

most likely scenario is we go 4-2 and are on the road for a first round game. it will take a monumental effort to go 6-0 the rest of the way. most likely we will have a loss to one of the monatas. missoula is just a tough place to play at so i am half expecting that to be a loss. we havent won there since 2005 and god knows when before then. they always seem to get all the calls and all the lucky breaks there.

That is a tough stretch. I think we'll go 5-1 there with a loss to either UM or MSU.

You fundamentally disagree with 6-0 as being the best case scenario? How does it get better than that? :shock:

Maybe he doesn't think we will go 6-0. I don't either, but agree that that is the beat case scenario considering we only have 6 games left in the season. :mrgreen:

It was supposed to be a joke. :ohno:

Going undefeated as a best case scenario kind of goes without saying doesn't it?

Even at 8-4, there's still a decent chance we would host a first round game given our attendance and the match up. 5-1 is the odds on favotite but something tells me we are heading for 6-0.

It will be interesting to see how we fill our Aug 30 game next year, that is the last open slot, assuming we leave our bye at the end of the year. If we play a D2 or an FCS home game, we will have a nice little schedule, if we schedule another road game, we will have 4 of 5 to start the year on the road.

Right? One might be lead to believe that this forum is devoid of anyone who is familiar with Plato's theses in The Republic or The Sophist and are completely ignorant to the rules of informal logic (to say nothing of formal.)

In the context provided, proper colloquial spelling of the word would be "led," not "lead." Great work, OL. You only made it 5 words into your thought before the fail.
