"Traditional" End of Season Scheduling?

I should probably wait to make this a QOW, but I just can't wait. I want your input NOW. ;)

In recent years, we have started scheduling UCD as the last game of the season. This last happened as a matter of course from 1958-1963, though it has happened sporadically during the intervening years (specifically, 1970, 1981, 1984, and 2006).

Is this a good thing? Should it continue? I supose that there are pros and cons here. What I can come up with is excitement to end a season and the potential to affect potential post-season berths. The fact that UCD is now in the Sky means that it is once more a "meaningful" game, not only in terms of getting the seven or eight wins that pretty much lock in a playoff spot, but also for having the conference wins required to win the autobid. A drawback could be that by the time the last game rolls around, the game could be meaningless for all of that based on water under the bridge by that point (i.e. the autobid and a playoff berth or lack thereof have been long decided), leaving only the usual grudge match.

What say you? I know I'm generalizing and am probably leaving quite a bit out. Do you like UCD as a last game, or are late-season, mid-season, or early-season better for you?

Thanks! You guys have been doing some fine work in our discussions this summer. I've really enjoyed them.

I like the rivalry game played last. The fact you can screw over your arch enemy in the last game season is a sweet feeling. If your about to win the conference or clinch a playoff spot, it adds drama. It seems to be true more often than not that a team can be "unbeatable" and play their hopeless rival and the game will be a thriller. Also, if both teams are out of it (or in) at the end of the season, it's almost like its own little championship game for bragging rights before the duldrums of summer

as a former player who played in the causeway classic when neither teams had a chance of going anywhere let me assure you that the game still holds special meaning for the players. And with it being the last game of the year it does almost have a championship feel to it.

I'm for keeping the Causeway as the last regular season game. Hopefully in the future it will have playoff implications which will make it huge. Even if no playoffs are on the line, it creates a lot of interest in the community like no other game can.

Also like the game as last regular season game
Enjoy the game best at Hornet Stadium so up to 21,000 people can attend in peson
Hoping for a healthy Hornet team heading into the Causeway this fall.

Has to be the last game of the season. It would be a little awkward to play the game in September.

Truer words ever spoken :thumb:

I always hated it when it was played in Sept. or October. The game is where it should be. Plus, the fact that the hoops game now is the Tuesday after the football game makes the week really special for our community. I think that game should be played at Arco, er Power Balance.

Last game of the season for sure. The only thing that sucks is that ucd hosts the game every other year.

Go Hornets!!!
