Troy Taylor and Jason Garrett Finalists for Stanford Job

Taylor told the team he is a candidate at Stanford and that he will coach them as far as they go these playoffs.

Thanks for the update, Kadeezy. Letting them know that he's a CANDIDATE is certainly not the same thing as telling them he's gone. There's certainly a good chance he is, but he also has the integrity not to leave Sac to fend for itself in the middle of the playoffs. I admire that....

Seriously, did everyone actually think this day would never come? Everyone has a price. This is the business of coaching in the D1 game and it is what it is.

Everyone stop dooming, take a breath, gear up and sit back and enjoy the program that Taylor has built for us over these past 4 years. Plenty of time to comment and speculate once the official announcement is made.

As a moderator championing “free speech” and just recently acknowledging that this is a place for know-it-alls to express opinions and vent — you should be the last person to discourage any type of discourse.

Hornets fan have a right to be discouraged and upset. After decades of suckitude some people were drawn back in the past few years and had built up a lot of hope. Taylor — and likely a lot more staff — leaving is naturally going to cause a lot of grief and insecurity. Let the people express it.

While I’ve expressed many of my thoughts about Coach Taylor’s decision, I will also say that I’ll be much less concerned IF Richardson and Fresques both remain to the take over the Hornets program.

If only one of Richardson and Fresques remains, I’ll still be somewhat optimistic. But if both those guys leave with Taylor and Orr is back to square one hiring a new coach that’ll bring their own system needing their own type of players — I’ll definitely be pessimistic about the future. Just being honest.

"No dooming" is meant as to not be negative and is in no way an attempt to suppress your views. I get your frustrations, we all wanted Taylor to be here for a long time, but that's just not how the business of D1 coaching works. That "I'm not going anywhere" article a week ago was the kiss of death. Deep down we all knew this day would eventually come.

As far as my "no dooming" post, I said that because there is no reason to be negative about our future. We have solid leadership in place and a championship caliber coaching staff to select a successor from. But aside from that, the most important thing we Hornet fans should have learned from these past 3 amazing seasons is that all the narratives about why we can't be successful have been shattered:
  • Can't win until we have better facilities.
  • Can't win until we have a new stadium.
  • No good coach wants to come here.
  • We can't recruit the quality local high school talent.
  • We can't win in the Big Sky.
  • We can't win on the road.
  • We can't make the playoffs.
  • We can't win in the playoffs.
  • We can't sustain success.
  • People won't come here to support the program.

There are probably plenty of other excuses and complaints that have been shattered as well, but these have all been shattered when the right leadership with the initiative to invest in the program came in. So relax, if we promote from within to fill Taylor's departure, we'll be fine.

It certainly sucks to loose Taylor, but, very happy for his opportunity (even though I despise Stanford). Man helped to put us on the (any sort of) map, and soar to unthinkable heights. We were never going to be able to keep him forever, and I can’t blame him for moving up.

Can’t say I’m not nervous about how we move forward, but I agree with SD that we have decent leadership and foundation, though it will be interesting to see off Orr has the same support or backing with Nelson’s replacement. If anything, under Taylor, we’ve proven we can generate internet in the community and cultivate a winning culture.

Also good to be back after like a decade. My original account is locked out.
